hi yy which unis(particularly ivies) consider Canadians residents. They seems to be all over the map.

hey petaling. haha, yea, college admissions can be very confusing. The ivies that are need-blind to Canadian residents that i know of are Upenn, Dartmouth, Columbia, Cornell, and hyp (harvard, yale, princeton-all need-blind for all international students)... i think brown's the only ivy that's not need-blind for canadian students. be careful though, being need-blind doesn't mean they don't have a quota. it's still definitely easier to apply as a canadian resident at any college than as a 'pure' international student (esp if you need finaid), but i'm not sure if you'll get the same exact treatment as US residents.
i myself applied as a chinese resident, so i may not remember all the details correctly. so please correct me if i'm wrong, anyone.
i would still ask someone in your situation or visit the school websites to be sure though. good luck

i think when i said, 'handful of top u.s. schools treat canadian applicants as residents,' i should have instead said, 'handful of top u.s. schools are need-blind to canadian applicants.'
they may indeed treat you as a u.s. resident, but since i don't know that for a fact, i shouldn't have said so. they are need-blind, but still may have a quota. i would call the colleges and find out.

Ok this is totally off the topic. I know qq is a popular im program in China. So i am trying to download the english version to talk to my cousins in china. So why is the link I am downloading from so freakin slow? I'm downloading it from the qq website. I tried to download both from dial-up and dsl and yet the transfer rate ends up as 3-4 kb per second, which will take about an hr. I don't have the patience to wait that long. Do any of you guys know a link where i can download the program fast? Oh yea i can barely read chinese. how does the word download look like in chinese? And does the 2004 english version work on windows xp?

im using the 2005 chinese version... its pretty good... anybody wanna share their number?

Hi Sakura. There are a few links on the qq downloading page that direct you to other websites that also allow you to download qq. I encountered the same problem that you experienced...transfer rate at 2kbps...using DSL. I think too many people use the qq website to download the software, so why don't you try a few other links to see which one works faster. And, although I never used the 2004 english version, it should work on Win XP coz qq generally works on Win 2000 or higher.
download in Chinese: 下载 :D

anybody know how to get qqbi without using a chinese phone number?

you can get a qq number without a cellphone now actually.i got one for my mom before i left china, haha.i'm surprised cos it used to be quite hard to get a new number.anyway, mine's 122368355 if anyone's interested in adding me.
my school orientation....dammit,it's kinda chaotic and tiring.but quite fun actually.why are these new ppl so nuts about drinking???geez, what's the big deal?i don't like it.i mean,i'm not being up-tight but i just don't like the taste, that's all.and really,WHAT IS THE BIG DEAL???there were loads of ppl getting drunk at my school last night.they act like they've never been away from their parents before.hmmmm, maybe they haven't.

I finally downloaded the program. Thanks for your help sweetbee03. Now who would like to help me register? I cannot read any of the stuff, and there all in simplify chinese. Its suppose to be the english version and registration is all in chinese. lol I learned traditional chinese and i know about 600 characters which is not enough to read a newspaper. Now first of all do i register for qq xing no. qq zone number, or qq free number? If anyone is interested in helping me pm me please. I feel so stupid. I think i'm going to minor in chinese when i go to college. :)

qq free number is free... qq xing and qq zone number costs money... they let you pick numbers, but qq free number is random. anyways, i was talking about qqbi like qq 币 for buying clothe and stuff cuz im shallow lol... hehe....

oh qqbi!sorry my bad.those you can only get in china.there are actually a lot of ways but yeah, you can only do it in china.but you can ask your friends to help you with it,chinese friends that is.my qq show expired and now i'm wearing only underwear!darn it.

while the orientation is rolling, i shall mumble, rumble in our chinese thread.

although it will get hectic ext week....

hey, does anyone go to or know about Li Po Chun United World College in Hong Kong here? If you do, could you please tell me how prestigious it is considered in China? I am a South Korean studying in Canada, thinking of applying to Li Po Chun. Thanks! =)

i heard of it... i kinda wish i heard of it my sophmore year lol cuz then i definitely would'v applied there. i think it's definitely a school i would attend if i was accepted.

but i wouldnt do any xtra year just to go there, that wouldnt be worth it

UWC's are generally quite good. I spent a year at the UWC in singapore and a year at the australian international school there. UWC is much better cauz they pretty much set u up no matter where in the world you wanna go to.

But then if you want to go to china for uni im not too sure cauz most people i know from there either go back to their country or to the UK and US.

Li Po Chun UWC is very prestigious in Hong Kong , and attracts the best applicants both from Hong Kong and aboard. Many of the graduates find their way into highly selective universities like Oxbridge, HYP, MIT Caltech etc.
Its scenic location and generous offers of scholarships add to its attraction.

good. so i'm not the only one who's not on campus yet. when are you starting school? very soon, right?
this summer seemed so endless. i still don't think i'm in the mood for school yet...o well, sometimes it just feels like i'm being pushed along without knowing where i'm going...it'll hit me in a week or two.
