ok tangs, basically everyone cool in china hates 李湘.actually why exactly i'm not sure but i think it has something to do with her stealing boyfriends and being a ***** in general.

haha,i knew ***** was going to be in stars!

yep. nice to meet you too JinFX. i just remembered this really popular show on the hunan tv channel.. back in 1999. i think it's called...urm...something something 大 something...lol. sorry, too many dead brain cells, i give up.
anyway, just talked to my parents. appearantly a hurricane's expected to hit houston this weekend (..wow, i really need to start watching the news). and all the gallon water from walmart are sold out since everyone's storing supplies in their houses...sounds pretty scary.
alright, end of break. back to work.

Are you serious yy? Hurricane hitting Houston? omg...Hopefully everyone's going to be ok...

tangsdaily you really have much free time huh...sigh i gotta go back to writing. I think it's because I didn't write anything for 3 months in the summer, now that it takes me forever to even write 1 page...

everyone...keep working~~btw I didn't know UT's mid-term is this early.

let's keep Houston's safety and stability in mind

yea. i know. most of the ppl i know in houston are storing water and other necessities in the house. i'm sure your parents are aware of it too. don't worry, it can't be that bad. i mean, it's supposed to hit galveston directly...so we'll be better off in comparision.....i hope
on the other hand...the ppl in my old hs are soo excited..appearantly they want the school to be underwater for a while. haha
yes, tang, that's what i was thinking. hahaha..yes. now i remember who 李湘 is. my dad used to make fun of her a lot.
yea. i had the same problem with writing..that's why my first paper was so painful. but the skills come back eventually.
alright, enough of calc today. g'night ppl

Hi, everybody,
I am a girl from Dalian.
I am very glad to meet with you here.
my stats,

hey. great to meet you. wow, your ec's are very similiar to mine. just make sure you work hard on your essays and make yourself appear as interesting as possible...and prepare yourself for the worst and hope for the best. good luck. hey i go to ut. let me know if you want to ask anything.
hey sweetbee, are your parents staying in houston for the weekend? nearly everyone i know in houston have either evacuated or are making plans to do so tomorrow. i was trying to convince my parents to come to austin for the weekend, but my dad's just like 'o, no. it's no big deal..just too bad i can't fish in galveston this weekend.' i was like '...omgosh, are you kidding me...' ugh, it's hard to concentrate now. and i really need to study.
alright, i'm off to the library now..ttyl

sorry, guys, about my langauge abuse, from now on, i'll use english only. if anyone or i want to discuss specific stuff in chinese, let's private message.
about dodo's stat, i can only say it's among the very best we can draw out there. Based on your stat, i only recommend that you apply one school out of stanford, yale, columbia; two schools out of ucb, ucla, ut, wisconsin, or umichigan; i've repeated several times that new candidates should consider apply a moderate number of schools around 6. I know that given the unmatched prestiege, academic and economic resource at psych, it is hard to let them go off your list. but if you insisted in applying them just as you wished for a long time, then do what you want, and i sincerely hope their doors can open to you. if you prepare the essay well for northwestern and chicago and you're a u.s. citizen or resident applying financial aid, then your chance there is very predictable.

please, if anyone can update what's going on with hurricane rita

thank you very much yy0712 and tangsdaily,
please give a percentage chance to these colleges if possible.

Stanford 20% chance
Columbia ?% chance
Northwest ?% chance
UCB ?% chance
UCLA ?% chance
Chicago ?% chance
UT ?% chance
Wisconsin ?% chance

if you have time, you can read through older posts, chances at top schools discussions have been repeated frequently.

word of encouragement
All you chinese students out there APPLY APPLY APPLY!
Don't ever get discourage trying. You all have awesome stats. SPICE UP THE PERSONAL ESSAY! Don't make it anything bland. JIA1 YOU2! (<-- pin yin)

logically, if i can predict the chance to get in schools in numbers especially for schools like yale, stanford, columbia; i would undoubtably be enrolled there already.

then please use reach, match, safety for them.

Your SAT scores aren't all that flashy. They're not bad but not too good either considering that you're applying to Stanford. I'm sorry but your EC's are really quite lacking. Like you have nothing that really stand out.

Having said that your academics are relatively strong. Your International which makes it harder especially if you're after FinAid.

Good Luck

yy I called my dad the other day and he said it's going to be fine...so I don't think he's gonna move to somewhere this weekend. My mom is in China...so no worries..

dodo, I assume you are not a permanent resident of the states? If you're not, It's impossible to get financial aid from schools like wisconsin and UT, although you might get some scholarship. For UCB and UCLA, you'd have to pay out of state tuition ...which is almost as expensive as what private schools cost...so maybe you can look into more schools that offer financial aid to internationals that are not as competitive as the ones you listed.

o i see. yea, my parents are staying too. it's really not as bad as they made it sound a few days ago. only category 3 now as supposed to 5 yesterday. the highways were packed like massive parking lots..cars moving like 5 mph..probably more tortuous than the staying through hurricane itself.
hey dodo, yes, i agree with naturallyjojo. You have no chance of getting in unless you apply. i think you have a good chance in all these schools (unless you are applying for aid), except stanford and columbia may be a bit more of a reach (but they are random enough that you never know). really, this whole college admissions process is a game, just try to play it well. good luck

wish everyone peace in the hurricane- sorry that i didn't see it earlier

the hurricane eased a little last night according what i checked on weather.com 5:30 am. if you guys in that area are fine now, please keep us updated
