Choate Wait LIst

So, Choate is my top school. I really love it, and I was positive I was going to get in. But, I got wait listed. Does anyone know what Choate specifically looks for in a letter as to why I should be accepted

Why are you considering writing one? Your application told them of your desire to attend and what you bring to the table. There is nothing more you need to do, certainly not before A10 when they will know if they are under enrolled or not. As long as you stay on the waitlist, you are in contention for any potential open spots, but understand that Choate may not use their WL this year and, if they do, they will cherry pick through it to replace the profiles that did not chose to attend. If you are on the WL, you are an acceptable candidate, but if they need to fill two male spots and you are a female, no amount of extraneous information is going to help you.

I don’t mean to be harsh, but there are so many posts asking what kids can do to get off a WL. The answer is nothing; you made your case in your application, and you need to proceed with plan B. If you stay on a WL, there is a very, very slim chance you will come off of it (right up to the start of the school year), and you will have to decide what to do then. The schools know that every potential student who stays on a WL desires to attend and is capable of contributing to their community. Nothing you try to add is going to push you to the head of an unranked line.

@ChoatieMom Are you sure that their waitlist is unranked? I know that they choose by what they need in that given year, but I also though they they ranked as well.

@Penguins: Don’t take my word for it. Call and ask after A10.

@penguins75 You don’t have to take my word for it either, but @ChoatieMom is right; the WL is unranked.

@skieurope @ChoatieMom I believe you, I was just curious to know. Thank you!

Hi! I also got waitlisted at Choate, which also happens to be my top school. I will be writing a first choice letter firmly stating that I will attend if I am accepted off the waitlist, and giving them an update of my ECs. Good luck to you!
