Hi!! I am an incoming freshman at Holy Cross and a lot of people in our Facebook group are talking about finding a roommate. I know HC does their freshman rooming process off of the Montserrat program, but I also know that you can request a roommate somehow, but I don’t see a lot of information about it on their website. I was just wondering if anyone could give me some insight on this particular topic? Thanks so much!
Like many of the Northeast LACs, Holy Cross discourages picking your own roommate. That is because building community is an important part of the first year there. But, in the past, if you do have someone you want to room with, there is a very small window (prior to June orientation) where you can make a request. At least that is how it has worked previously. They want to avoid, people meeting at June orientations and making quick decisions to room together, that then don’t work out. There are 3 freshman dorms, and each houses 2 of the freshman seminar ‘clusters’, so that factors into the roommate determination as well. Congrats on your acceptance!
Congratulations on your acceptance to Holy Cross, @mhc324! I am currently a first-year student here at the College. You are right - HC does their freshman rooming process off of the Montserrat program. While you technically “can” make a request in June as @wisteria100 said, but more often than not these requests are denied as Residence Life wants students to be matched randomly based off of Montserrat, etc. I hope this helps, please do not hesitate to get in touch if you have any more questions!
