Hello, I want to get your opinion about civil engineering in UCB and UCLA. I got accepted into both schools for my undergrad and currently, I’m having a hard time to choose one of them. ( I got a full scholarship offer from both of them so please exclude the expenses from your reasons.)
You’d have to provide more info. None of us know anything about you. Obviously it will come to personal criteria.
Yes sure. For both schools, I got a full free ride. I live in LA and my family is here but at the same time, UCB is ranked #1 in my major. I am wondering if there is much difference in both schools for my major. Will it hugely affect my future opportunities if I choose to go to UCLA over UCB? And is the school reputation that important in this case? I am also ready to do the short term sacrifice and go to Berkeley but is it worth that?
Your opportunities will be similar with a degree from either school.
is either staying close to home or wanting to get away from home important to you?
it sort of sounds like you’d rather stay closer to home (UCLA), but maybe I’m reading your statement wrong.
I am ready for either of the situations. Berkeley is something that is really hard to reject especially for my major. Plus I just want to add that I am 25 and I am ready for either school’s level of difficulty. But my main concern is about the outcomes and opportunities after attending those schools. If I will have better chances attending Berkeley I am ready to go there but if I will have the same level of opportunities attending to UCLA, I will have the advantage of my family and friends.
from all the rankings, Berkeley is definitely a notch above. But in reality you should go where you are most comfortable. Have you visited both schools and/or maybe talked with advisors at either place?
You can look up the placement and starting salary stats at both. I’d be shocked if they differ much regardless of the ranking differences.
