Choosing Dorms

Hi all,

I would like to seek some guidance in choosing dorms.

I want to do SLE, so I guess I will be choosing between Alondra, Cardenal and Faisan. Alondra is all-frosh while Cardenal and Faisan are 4-class. I want my room to be an extremely quiet place, but I heard that Alondra and all-frosh in general are extremely noisy and there is a lot of partying. However, I also heard that that there will be less bonding in 4-class dorms because it is more difficult to get connected with seniors. Therefore, may I know what I should choose?

Thank you very much!

Congrats on getting into Stanford!!

Thank you very much Foodlover001! =D

Could someone please answer my question about housing? I need to submit my forms by 5th June. Thank you very much!

i am also looking at SLE and i think i’m going for an all-frosh dorm. it seems like they have a sort of energy you can’t really find at a 4 class dorm, and i figure i can just study at the library. but if you need quiet and space for more than just studying, 4-class might be a better place for you. i think SLE is a tight enough group that you’ll still form bonds with other people, even if you aren’t rooming with all freshmen

If you are in SLE, do you have to major in one of the liberal arts?

Hi all,

I can answer some of your questions, as I lived in Alondra my freshman year. I wasn’t in SLE. First of all, NO, there is NO NEED to major in the humanities or social sciences if you enroll in SLE. The 2014 cohort of SLE has quite a few hard sciences or engineering majors (and several math majors for some reason).

That said, Alondra is rarely ever as loud as other all-frosh dorms. The fact of the matter is that Alondra is an anamoly (one of only two all-frosh dorms outside of Wilbur and Stern), so most people LEAVE Alondra to party for anything other than room get-togethers.

Alondra can be quiet or noisy depending on the year, but the same is true for Faisan or Cardenal. It’s pretty much impossible to determine what’s going to be quiet and what isn’t. That said, one of the perks of living in EastFlo (as Alondra, Cardenal, and Faisan are collectively called) is that there are extra common spaces. The SLE Lounge is usually quiet, and the conference room is ALWAYS pretty quiet (unless you’re group studying). There’s also an under-used quiet lounge room outside the RFs apartment.
