Choosing Major

Hi everyone,

I have a question about my major. I want to become a physicist who researches how the gravity began and how the gravity works incessantly. Which of astrophysics or general physics should I choose for my dream career? And if possible, in which university should I take the education for that without any other considerations, such as finance, competitiveness, and so on?

Thank you

In not sure about specifics, but if you want to look at how gravity came to be you’ll probably be studying the GUT theory, and the persistent of gravity perhaps relativity? Both of which would be specializations that you would likely have to wait until grad school to really get into.

Start with a BS in physics and then pursue a graduate degree in theoretical physics. This could be particle theory or cosmology. Either way the physics foundation will take you in the right direction. Note, however, that theoretical physics is the hardest field in which to pursue a pure research career. There are many more jobs for experimental physicists.
