Citigroup vs. Goldman Sachs

I see here many topics about Goldman Sachs; it seems that Goldman Sachs is regarded as the King of Investment Banking. How about Citigroup? The biggest bank in the world? Anyone can give me some information?

For IBD GS is best. However, Citi is good as well. Take a look at the league tables published. As for trading, that depends on the various desks and can't really be generalized.

thank you, mahras2! You must have a very deep knowledge of IB.
I have another question. Do they pay the same? It seems to me that Citigroup is more global??!!!

BB investment banks are going to pay very similar in order to compete with one another however things like end of year bonus may be a little different. But I'd keep in mind that bonus numbers also depend on the individual, how well you do compared to your analyst class, etc.

And Mahras is on point with the fact that banks all have their strengths and weeknesses. It really depends on what desk you're at.

"thank you, mahras2! You must have a very deep knowledge of IB."

I have to say that while mahras DOES know a lot about IB, I hardly see how his post could draw such a laudatory response...I just find it funny.

It's because mahras2 is so knowledgeable regarding these things that it seems as if he's saved the day when he answers someone's question usually better than anyone else here.

Thank you mahras2 for being so informative.

mahras is a G

I read some information about Citigroup on Wikipedia, in the Products Section, I see it writes that Citigroup has these products: Checking Accounts, Insurance, Stock Brokerage, Investment Bank, Asset-Based Lending, consumer finance. Do you all know Why Citigroup has insurance product?

Citi has one of the most comprehensive product bases and is often called a financial supermarket. Naturally insurance has to be one of their products. A lot of firms have insurance exposure. Even some of the larger HFs have been moving into it (although they have been shaken after last years hurricane season).

Because it's not just an investment bank...it's a massive financial services firm.

Is Traveler Insurance a branch of it?

Yes, it is.

goldman is more highly regarded and sought after.

"Is Traveler Insurance a branch of it?"

Yep...Citicorp became Citigroup when it merged with Travelers.

citi as well as bofa are seen as financial supermarkets, citi has just implented their programs better. Bofa has been unable to break into the top with underwriting. I heard they are actually paying considerably more, however not for college recruits, im talking about people with experience due to the fact that they have been unable to keep anyone with talent or expertise.
