Hello,

I recently graduated college and have the choice between tutoring at a writing center and joining City Year. I am passionate about both. I would like to know which choice is best in terms of what graduate schools like.

That depends on the program that you are doing:

-An MFA, English, literature, or writing program would prefer the tutoring at the writing center.

-Some kind of public service program like social work, public admin, public policy, public health, urban planning, etc., would prefer City Year.

-Academic graduate programs like PhDs and academic master’s programs won’t care. The writing might be slightly better for humanities and social science programs, but honestly I don’t think it would matter - and some social science programs may prefer the City Year. But I don’t think it’ll make a significant difference.

So I would do what you think you might enjoy more, and what would cost you the least.
