Civil Engineering: MSU vs MTU

The early application to UofM snuck up on me and I'm not very sure I'll get in (ACT 28/GPA 3.6).

State and Tech are very different schools. State is much more well-known and ranked in general, but Tech is known to be absolutely solid for engineering in the region.

The costs are also a large factor and I've heard MSU gives some aid for maintaining a good GPA while I can't say the same for Tech.

If by some strange reason I got into Michigan, I'd definitely go.

Go with MSU in case you change your mind about your major. Engineering is very demanding, and one needs to have good time management and study habits. For this & other reasons, quite a few who start with engineering do switch to other majors.

Also from our personal experience, we found MSU’s admissions to be far more welcoming than MTU. MTU seemed very parochial. Also there is a higher chance for getting aid at MSU.

Trinity’s reasoning seems sound, and unlike most of us Trinity has had some contact with MT. MSU is a good school and there is no reason to think you will not get a good education there. There are a bunch of recent posts at the MT forum you could check out.

Thought I’d necro the thread and say I’m going to Tech. They gave about three times as much aid plus a scholarship.
