Do they always start accepting people from the waitlist in late May or is it possible that that they are not using the waitlist this year?
The admission office said a few weeks ago that they will start reviewing waitlist applications at the end of April. So it sounds to me like they are planning to show some movement.
I have heard that the incoming class is over enrolled by 40-plus. Is it then natural to infer there will be no movement in the waitlist? CMC has been very quiet.
That’s like 10%+ of the freshman class size… yet another school reporting massive upticks this year in applicants and yield. Not seeing a ton of schools reporting a drop. I’m not following the math… Is this birth year that much bigger than others? It’s got to balance out somewhere somehow.

Updated in what way?
They told us that their class is currently full so they won’t turn to the waitlist, at least not now.
Ok cmc, if you are going to send an email that there’s an update to the portal, could you not use an exclamation point?! Were you trying to emphasize that bad news was on its way?
I received an email saying that although they are pretty sure the class is full and they have released many people from the waitlist, that there is a small continued waitlist that I had to opt into but it is unlikely we will hear till June or July.
Interesting. So they will keep a smaller list just in case. So you want to stay on it or are you ready to move on? I think being released is actually a good thing for my daughter as she is now ready to start imaging herself at the school she committed to.
I decided to stay on the waitlist. But I committed to Pitzer so I am going to Claremont either way and want to have the flexibility to decide which would be better for my career path. I think it is definitely a positive to let people know early if it is going to be a no so that they can move on as you said.

Wait, did you hear this after you reached out to an AO? Or was this an email sent following the portal update? Sorry if this is too many questions lol, I just want to figure out if the smaller waitlist is by “invite only” or if any of the initially waitlisted students can choose to “opt in”
I did not reach out to an AO. I did send in an LOCI in April but I received an email yesterday that said “Thank you for your continued interest in Claremont McKenna College. We remain impressed with your academic and personal record. While we do not have space in the first-year class at this time and we have released the majority of our waitlist, we would like to keep you on our waitlist in the event that space becomes available later this summer.” It then gave me a form to opt in. Hopefully this helps!

Nope. No status update. Just an email with a link to the portal to fill out the new waitlist form.
