Clarification regarding different applications?

<p>Forgive me If I can't word this without sounding pants-on-head stupid.</p>

<p>I've been wondering, is there a difference between the common apps essay and a college's supplemental essay? Or is a college's supplement just for those who choose not to use the common application? </p>

<p>I believe SUNY schools only require the common or the supplement+SUNY app but are there any schools that require both?</p>

<p>If a school accepts the common application, then you fill out the common application and write an essay based on one of the six choices in the writing section. Many schools will ALSO have a required school supplement, where they may have their own additional essay questions. You would submit both.</p>
