clarification:

"To mirror Wutang, though: be prepared to work hard. We're just starting the second week here and I've already been given 10 or so hours of work."

Wait, u mean to say you have had ten hours of homework in 1 week.

U kidding me. Im a high school senior, and i have easily over 20+ hrs a week of homework, studying, and projects.

10 hrs is nothing

How are your other grades? Arts you need a 3.5 uw or so, but science you need more like a 3.7-3.8, having taken AP science/math classes.

Is that a minimum? I have like a 3.45ish, unweighted, so is that going to immediately bar me from admission?

knowing mcgill, that may be a possibility.

20 hours per week of studying in high school? You're wasting your time.

Back in my day (yes, I'm that old), 10 hours a week was just the expected time spent on one assignment in one class (e.g., Basic Algebra, which, despite the name, is really baby ring and group theory, not just playing around with symbolic manipulation (HS algebra)). Multiply this by 4 to 5 classes (load may vary, depending on which course you pick, Moons for goons had no homework at all), and that's what your first semester might be like. Eventually you'll realize that many assignments are a big waste of time too (like in CS 202). Procrastination and socializing are much more fun...

I'm not even going to touch your tone; I'll just say this: I came from a fairly well known public school in suburban Chicago. Maybe once this got heated up we'd have a lot of work, but never had I heard of one subject giving someone 10 hours of work within it's first week (it's not like I slacked off or didn't take honors courses either).

The point is, keeping ahead, as well as keen, is something that takes more time than most people think. I'll exclude you from that generalization because it's fairly obvious that you like to waste your time on menial bll**** (ie turning studying into an affair).

20 hours of hw is a lot different than 20 hours of hw, studying, and projects.

Don't disillusion yourself, what you're accomplishing in your last year of high school is near pointless; where you'll be able to get accepted to has already been determined (there are no amount of good grades now that can make a difference). Have fun, and don't sweat your senior year; it's truly bll****.

I wasnt trying to be all haughty or anything like that. I was just actually astonished that you have only like 10 hrs of work a week.

Funny, speaking of Chicago, i spent the first 3 weeks of my summer at U of Chicago taking Japanese. Best time of my life.
