I played in a huge Clash Royale (I’m sure you know the game) tournament, reaching top 8 (I got 7th) and flying to LA for the tournament, winning $3000. I think around 40K people participated. Does this improve my chances of getting into top colleges? I’m not planning on majoring in CS, more possibly will major in Business or Physics.
If interested, the tournament was Clash Royale CCGS North America.
I doubt it would help for admissions just as an award or accomplishment itself. Although you could write a pretty sweet essay about it, as it shows you have dedicated your time to something you felt was important to you. Maybe mention if anyone made fun of you for playing the game, but that didn’t deter you etc. On another note, top 7 in clash royale you are a freakin’ legend man!!! I play that game all the time and it crazy that you actually made it to the top 8!!
Don’t assume an adult admission reader is going to know what Clash Royale is. I personally have never heard of it. While I guess its impressive that you won a contest that a lot of people participated in, part of me is wondering if you are the type of person who never gets off their computer. How else would you get that good? Top colleges don’t want people who spend all their time playing computer games.
With any extracurricular activity, it is how you describe it and what it meant to you that makes it powerful. By all means, include anything to which you have devoted much time and energy!
