Class 2016 should not receive 1098-T for 2016, it that right?

I was a full time college student in spring semester and graduated in May 2016, but I didn’t receive 1098-T for 2016. Is it normal ? I paid $20k after scholarship for spring semester. Can I get education tax credits without 1098-T? Thanks.

Was the scholarship reported on the 2015 tax forms?

Did you look on the website? My kids not longer get them mailed, but they are on their portals.

2014, 2015 and 2016, I had same amount scholarship for every semester. 1098-T of 2014&2015 are similar .
nothing is on my portal. Thanks.

I checked 2012-2015 four year 1098-T forms. In 2012, I only attended school in freshman fall semester, but 1098-T shows 2012-2013 WHOLE school year billed expenses(box 2) and scholarship (box 5). I think in 1098-T of 2015, it shows 2015-2016 school year expenses and scholarship. So nobody who graduated in 2016 can have 1098-T for 2016, is it correct? How can I get education tax credit for the last spring semester? Thanks.

You have to know how you treated the scholarships/tuition in each tax year, and how your school reported them. My daughter’s school bills tuition in Dec, but doesn’t post scholarships until Jan, so I don’t rely on the 1098-t figures. On the tax forms, I check that I got the 1098-t, but that I’m using my own numbers.

The school reports what it does. If it posted the spring tuition and scholarships in Dec, then that’s the 1098-t they are going to give you (and from the above, that’s what your school did and the school accounted for 4 years of tuition and scholarships on 1098-t forms in 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015). You can only take the AOTC for 4 tax years. Have you done that? If so, you are done.

You might qualify for the lifetime learning credit, but there are lower income levels to qualify. See IRS publication 970

Thanks. I have a job after graduation and qualify for the lifetime learning credit. but no 1098-T.

Was the AOTC claimed for 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015? What did the 1098T say for those years in box 2 and 5 and did that match the tuition statement as far as what was billed for tuition and qualified fees and what was received in scholarships during that year?
