Class "demotion"

I think you should do what your new school recommends. Repeating Spanish II is not a bad thing. I would start with a new language before I went back to Spanish 1.

So should I do spanish I or just do Spanish II?

Thanks, so how negatively do you other guys think it will have on me, cause im legit in a dilemma rn

Take either Spanish 2
Or
A new language at level 1

It may be best in your case, to start a new language at level 1.
Portuguese, French, Italian would probably work best in terms of using your previous background in Spanish.

Retaking Spanish 2 - neutral
Retaking Spanish 1 - negative ^ ∞ .

More importantly, what is the new HS advising?

Exactly! What does the Spanish teacher there want you to do? That person should have plenty of placement materials to use to find your level, and extra study materials to help you catch up in specific areas of weakness.

Well, i dont think I can take spanish I or II, just gonna have to do III, anyone have some material to self-teach spanish?

Since Spanish III is clearly too hard, take French 1 or Italian 1. Foreign language isn’t something you can self teach easily nor quickly.

There are probably some who can… but someone who asks the kind of question that this thread is about is not such a person.

I go back to my earlier statement in the thread. You can teach yourself grammar, but you cannot, IMO, teach yourself speaking or listening.

@WannabeWannabe - Your own classroom teacher is the one best positioned to advise you on supplementary materials and activities. Ask that person.

Duolingo can help with that. I think you should probably start in Spanish II in your new school.

They say that they cant give credit for a course that I can already taken

So you are in Spanish III. Accept that. Go speak with your teacher and get help finding extra study materials, and arranging extra speaking/listening practice. Then plan time in your schedule each day to do the work needed to catch up.

If your teacher believes that is is impossible for you to catch up, drop the class, and take something else.

Your other choice is to start with level 1 in another language. Go talk to the dept chair and take a placement test, if it shows you really shouldn’t be in Spanish III, switch to French I or Italian I or whatever romance language your school offers.

Also keep in mind that your guidance counselor will send a “School Profile” (for both schools) along with their recommendation.
It includes things like Average SAT score, how many Merit FInalists there were, how many AP courses, average scores on AP tests, and what courses are offered.

So if they see you went from a place with an average SAT score of 900 to one with 1200 then they will see this new school is more challenging and put your info in context.

So you CAN take Spanish 1 or 2, buy you won’t get additional credit for them. I would take the option of taking Spanish 2 over, even without additional credit, or taking Spanish 3 and being so far behind you have little hope of doing well. The point of attending school is to learn, not to accumulate credits. Credits allow you to graduate, but I doubt your school doesn’t leave any room for failure. I doubt you need to earn the maximum number of available credits every year in order to graduate. If you really need to credits, then drop to level 1 in another language.

Why did you “self teach” Spanish 1? That is the problem right there - you skipped Spanish 1 and went into Spanish 2 with no foundation. If this were a transfer between colleges, and Spanish 2 at the other school didn’t even qualify as meeting the standards for Spanish 1, you would get NO transfer credit.
