First...which eating club would you recommend, if at all?

Haha, and that's the first question I get.

CHARTER!

Awesome food, beautiful building, wonderfully classy formals, friendly and dynamic people, without the hassle and unpleasantness of Bicker.

Haha I put the decal on my craptastic 80's Volvo with a flat tire and no glove compartment or working radio. It still doesn't give me a sense of prestige, but it looks funny.

Lithoglyphic, what math and physics sequence would you recommend to someone done with AP Calc (BC) and AP Physics? I've heard differing opinions on this one...

Oh, and any other recommendations for a prospective engineering major (or so it seems for now) would be appreciated. :)

Oh, and thanks for the clarification on the decal. And like snowdancer, I too will have to adopt jmarsh's motto. :)

In response to somebody who mentioned midyear reports, I hear as long as your gpa is above a 3.5 you won't have any problems.

Omg, I know we have to wait until July-ish to find out, but what res college are you hoping for?

Mathey or Rock....I am really, really terrified of Butler. Though supposedly they're tearing down some of the uglier dorms. I really want a pretty dorm. There's no point going to Princeton if you don't actually get to live amidst all the Gothic-ness.

Mathey or Rocky... I would even do the walk from Forbes. Agreed on the whole Butler thing.

I woke up this morning...and realized yesterday actually happened. Let me recap:

Woke up at 6:30, called Princeton, got accepted. Yelled in triumph which sent the entire house into pandemonium. Called my best friends and then went to school. First period was Spanish and we had a baile, dancing salsa all period with some very pretty young ladies. Went to English and watched music videos (making a loose connection with post modern literary theory). I had a "second half of a math test" next class, but that second half turned out to be Christmas math puzzles for extra credit. Then was psychology, my favorite class, and we just talked the whole time, followed by a Connect Four Club party at lunch, and finally a physics party. Throughout the day everybody kept coming up to me and giving me hugs and sharing in my excitement. And then...it was Winter Break.

Feel free to share the magic of your acceptance day.

Ah yes, df14...acceptance was a sweeeet thing.

I came back home, knowing (thanks to CC) that letters would be coming out that day. I walked home from the bus stop and before I went home, picked up the mail. I saw a big white envelope (at that point, the opinion on CC was that all envelopes are the same, which we now know isn't true), but wasn't quite sure if it was thick or thin. I went home and told my mom that the letter came, and I think because of the frown (I was scared!) on my face, she asked "Deferred?". I told her I hadn't opened it yet. Trying not to get my hopes up, she said that the envelope felt thin, then she opened it, and yelled "CONGRATULATIONS...IT SAYS CONGRATULATIONS!!!!". Enter jumping, shouting, breaths of relief, and phone call to Dad

The next day at school...wow...the news had spread like wildfire (I had put it on my AIM profile the day before). Everywhere I went people congratulated me, and even Guidance had heard of it before I had gone to them and thanked them. But it almost felt scary...I've never had so many people congratulating me or whispering the information during class to those that didn't know. It was the same the day after, too.

About residential colleges...let me just throw out there that I have found so many people (even those in Rocky/Mathey) who agree that Wilson pretty much has the best benefits. Sure, it may not be the prettiest (though 1927/Clapp is pretty hot), but it has the best location by far, it's the only place on campus where you'll find a large concentration of suites (thus making it pretty much the most social college), Wilcox has so much stuff in it (including Friday night BlackBox parties, which can be fun), and...um...it basically rocks at life. Just keep that in mind ;)

Wilson '09

I emailed my admissions officer Thursday night, because I was so eager to get my decision, and she responded by telling me to call the admissions office the next morning. I was convinced I had been deferred or rejected, because I figured if I had gotten accepted, she would've told me.

Next morning, one my best friends is sitting anxiously with his eyes wide open as I make the call.
Operator said: "Good news....something something...Congratulations!"
My friend opens his arms and gives me the biggest hug I've ever had.

I go and tell my teachers who are incredibly happy for me. Only telling three of my closest friends, the news spread around the whole school, and even people who hardly know me congratulate me and give me these delicious moments of eye contact that say, "I respect you for real now."

On a more bitter note, my best friend since first grade got deferred after calling twenty minutes after me. And a very sweet choir girl was also deferred. I felt bad but didn't let it get to me, since I've worked my butt off to reach this point.

We still have two days of school before we get off school here though, so I've got to get back to studying for upcoming tests. Happy holidays everybody!

While Blackbox is not the hub of social life that the administration would like us to believe it is, Wilson is definitely the best college ever when it's a cold winter morning and you're late to class :)
And surprisingly enough, I found that a large suite was actually a very awesome place to live in :)
And hopefully, I'll be able to draw into 1927-Clapp next year.
And if you absolutely insist on Gothic, we do have Walker.

I think Mathey is my favorite part of campus (I lived in Lockhart...is it near there?...for 5 weeks a couple summers ago).
I was on a field trip most of the day after I got the decision, so I haven't seen that many people yet. but I still have FOUR DAYS left. aaaaahhhhh :(
I was the last person on the bus for the field trip (we went to see Memoirs of a Geisha in Georgetown) and everyone clapped and congratulated me when I walked on (wearing my sweatshirt, of course). Yeah!
Then, downtown later that day a homeless guy said "I'm a harvard man myself" as I walked past him (I already told this story somewhere else, though). i laughed.

I thought I'd make a Gmail account for us all:
princeton2010@gmail.com

The password is Shirley M.'s last name. If you can't figure it out, try the security question.

Please don't abuse the account, and try not to mess around with the settings. The conversation style of Gmail should make it easy to keep neat. If anybody wants to make some Labels, go right ahead. If everybody puts their name in the "Class" group in contacts, we can use it as a mailing list. Later on we might try making groups for dorms, majors, etc.

By the way, my name is Eric. I enjoy candlelit dinners and long walks on the beach. Only joking. I like sailing and sleeping, and hope to get more of both done now that I'm accepted to college.

Done...HINT: the password is case-sensitive. lol it took me a few tries.

Hello all. Butler is actually a great place to live. And there is one dorm, Bloomberg, that is one of the best on campus....Singles, long hallways that make it like a giant suite, hardwood floors, air conditioning.....

Plus Wu Hall is a great place to eat. You do wind up only knowing down campus kids, Forbes, Wilson, but it's by no means the end of the world to be in Butler.

It's ironic that Wilcox Hall is closer to a lot of the Butler dorms than Wu is.
I personally prefer Wilcox since it stays open till 8 and I don't like the booths in Wu, but I freely admit that I'm prejudiced since I live in Wilson :p

CONGRADULATIONS!!!

That must be really exciting. I too want to go to Princeton and if I were you I would be jumping off the walls by now. Can you give me some information that you put on your apps that helped your chances of being admitted.
Vanessa

p.s. did I say it was awesome that you got in.

I've gotten out of the CC rhythm. I made that initial post, and then forgot all about it until today. Logged on, and... THREAD EXPLOSION!! Anyway, here goes:

Lithoglyphic, what math and physics sequence would you recommend to someone done with AP Calc (BC) and AP Physics? I've heard differing opinions on this one...
Not entirely sure. You'll have to ask around. Personally, I came in with a pretty standard freshman year engineering sequence -- MAT 104/201, PHY 103/104 -- having finished AP Calc (AB).
Oh, and any other recommendations for a prospective engineering major (or so it seems for now) would be appreciated.
Depends. Which specific majors are you interested in?

Also... you don't have to worry about this for another several months. Seriously.

I am really, really terrified of Butler.

My opinion, for what it's worth, is that each of the colleges has its own high points and low points. Really. Even Butler. Save yourself some needless agony. If you are dying to live in gothic before you graduate, you can do that without being in Mathey or Rocky -- the Junior Slums (which are not actually slums, nor all juniors) are gothic.

I opened my Princeton acceptance during lunch in the tense environment of a boarding school mail-room, buzzing with other seniors. I know exactly what you mean... heh.
