maximus,
when did your son find out he was a finalist for banneker/key? does being a finalist mean he got the full ride? sorry if the questions are a bit intrusive, i’m just really desperate to know when i should expect the notification (and whether i got the full ride or not)

@livingtea

I think you misinterpreted maximus. B/K finalist means you got an interview. B/K first and second level is your full ride or 8K a year.

Just look at the date of Maximus’s post. It is far too early for them to send notification. We should get it in the first week of April.

Right, no word yet on the level of B/K award. My understanding is that we’ll all hear the first week of April.

In regards to Shakespeare courses,

SANDY MACK is THE BEST PROFESSOR AT UMD. Very friendly, very knowledgeable and he is one of the only professors who is actually there for his students and his task is to get his students involved and expanding their minds. And STEPHANIE GRAHAM is the best TA!

Mack is fantastic! We heard him speak at a gifted and talented Honors program a few months ago.

Our S spent a summer at Oxford University studying Shakespeare. It was one of the greatest experiences of his life. Our daughter participated in the program the following year with the same result.

Well Bullet and I just had a conversation with our son, he has made his decision…UMD is it.

He is not going to wait to hear from Notre Dame or the Air Force Academy, next week when we are at orientation he is going to sign up.

As a Mom, I will say I am very happy with his choice, it is a great fit for him. He also already knows alot of the campuse since we have taken the kids every other yr to UMD. I also can’t complain since we will be living in Northern VA, far enough for him to realize we won’t be showing up, close enough he can come home to do his laundry. (45-60 min. away)

His hold out was that he wants to be a pilot for the AF, Bullet spoke to ROTC today, and they told him if DS gets good grades and is doing well in ROTC he had a 90% chance of getting pilot school. When Bullet told him that the smile that came over his face was just sheer joy.

I did tell him that the bronze terp better fly away when he pets its nose on graduation date…yeah like believe that will happen!

Anyone else make the decision to attend Maryland?

ill be goin to umd !! bioengineering and spanish dual major and in the scholars program prob public leadership

I got the full BK, but I would rather go to Duke, Cornell or Pomona (still haven’t decided which). I want to study cellular biology/neurobiology, and I’ll probably be premed. Money isn’t a big issue with my family (didn’t even bother applying for FA anywhere), however paying 200k for undergrad does seem kind of high if I want to go to med school right after. UMD is free for me (I’ll actually get paid to go), so does anyone have any thoughts about whether I should choose umcp over other privates?

200k is a lot of money to turn down… Especially when you know you’re going to go on to grad school and possibly medical school. If you want my opinion, for the sake of your parents’ wallets, I’d say go to UMD.

I just accepted my offer today. I can’t wait for the fall.

DS is going to open house on Friday and accepting then!

Flower,

If money isn’t an issue than you should go where you want to go.

Money isn’t an issue for DS, and he had the opportunity to go to the exact schools you did minus Pomona, but he wanted UMD. You need to decide where is the right fit for you. Cornell and UMD are totally different in size, if UMD is too big than Cornell is a better fit, if Cornell is too small than UMD is a better fit.

Ultimately it is a personal decision, you need to look at all of the factors, size, program and location should all be an issue!
