Stellar!! Excellent. Btw, Indian grading system looks weird :D:D;);)

lol thanks debate_addict :)

So you are just applying to HYPM?

Another class of 2012 here.

What safety schools can you suggest?

@ajayc: Yes I am applying there. As soon as I fix my resume. I have like dozens of stuff that I always forget to add. :(
It's so annoying.

Safety schools (assuming that you too are shooting for Ivy caliber) would be..ehm, Northwestern (not sure) or...ah, I DONT KNOW. I suck at the whole "reach, match, safety" thing...sry!!

debate_addict: It doesnt matter how many ECs you have. You can have 10000000s of them but you are going to state only 5 of them on the app. So I think as you have listed you 'main' ECs they are good enough.

boptothetop: Well in order to suggest safety I need to look at your stats. And yeah Northwestern is a really GOOD univ. You CANNOT consider that as a safety unitl and unless you are self funded ;)

^ wait is that true that you only need the best 5 EC's...

cause if it is true, I am saved!

If they haven't changed it, there's space for 7 ECs on Commonapp. But since they have so limited space to explain your ECs almost everyone sends a resume. Don't worry about filling all of them.

Abhi where are you leaving for?

In the common application yes naidu!! It is. However, since the common application does not allow me to demonstrate many of my qualities, I will also attach my comprehensive CV with the full list.

I dont think they will even look at it :D just kidding I have no idea. But as I said before listing a 100000 ECs wont help.

yes, ajayc is totally right:
you should shoot for a comprehensive list containing AT LEAST (!) 500000 different activities -- although the colleges will always deny, it's likely that people with 100000 ECs are auto-rejects.

show some passion in your ECs. :)

Rister : did you post your stats?! I know its pretty boring posting them....I posted mine yesterday

No Idea, yet. I think Lafayette would reduce my EFC, but really I am not interested. Waiting for list of waitlist admits from Williams/Amherst/Colby. I am still hopeful about that :) Otherwise NUS/NTU/Jacobs/Some Indian College.

nop i didnt (as you know :p)
i'll take the may SAT and will post my stats as soon as i know them...

i'll only give a brief draft of my profile at this stage, but i doesn't tell you much:

-Currently a senior, applying out of a gap year (some travel but mostly military service..)

-Very competitive Swiss high school: 99% (in recent years there was always around 1 student who didn't pass the Matura) graduate with the Swiss Matura (similar to A-Levels, etc.) which allows them to enroll at any university in Switzerland (no admission process for Matura holder) - around 20-25% of an age-group eventually receive their Matura

-we don't have these percentages, nor do we calculate a GPA. what I can say, is, that my grades were ..moderate.. for my freshman, sophomore and junior year. Having said that, there is a huge grade deflation at my school. but still, i could have certainly done better - i just didn't study enough!!
however, i show a steep upward trend and expect to receive stellar Matura grades (I did very well at the Pre-Examinations in Geography and Biology)

-i have some very generic ECs but also some outstanding ones. i know that you're eager to know them, but please understand that -at this stage- I don't want to reveal them -- i can't really tell you why, but I just don't feel comfortable. i'll post them all eventually though!
what i can say you, is, that I've never thought about applying to foreign universities -- consequently I did only what I wanted to do and never cared about how it will look on the app

-i don't have any awards actually, but I'm familiar with 6 languages (German [native], English [proficient], French [fluent], Latin [pretty good] and Russian [basic skills])
Concerning Russian, the course was abolished at my school after 2 years. Ever since, I've been attending Russian classes at Univ. Zurich [i didn't sit any exams nor did I receive credit - in switzerland you can just sit in the class -for the intro courses that is- and listen]

-i teached myself Esperanto

again, sorry that i'm reticent about my stats!

p.s. at this stage International Relations or Econ are my intended majors!

Here's a Class of 2012!! (Hopefully). I'm sorry if I am late to say so as I've
recently known that I can't be '2011.
Let me say hello to all.
I'm kind of new here. (This is my first types at CC actually :P ).
I'm from Myanmar(Burma).

welcome!

are you a currently a high school senior? ("so as I've recently known that I can't be '2011.")

Did you come too late to the conclusion that you wanna study in the USA (like me :) ) or weren't you lucky at your first try?

Have you already an idea where to apply? What's your intended field of study? (engineering? arts? ...?)

Welcome again, and good luck during the next few months!! I have the feeling that everyone on this thread (especially swift) will be extremely happy when the time for decisions comes - Class of 2012 simply rocks!

wc win23

why cudn't u be in the class of 2011

Welcome aboard!!! :) We have a Burman on the thread!! w00t!

And Since I am the most senior most member of this thread {AjayC looks at naidu90} you all better listen to me :D {j/k}

naidu and I started this thread because we wanted to interact with people from other nationalities too not only India!

CheerS!!!!

Naidu, I gotta say I am quite disappointed in u...u no longer frequent in these places. Gone are the days when you would luxuriate in constructive discussion apart from CC cafe..

about my ecs: many of my ecs (well, the majority of them) are oriented towards my passion-yet the common application does not allow me to show them. My college counselor told me to do so-she knows many people and is very insightful (she even introduced me to a Dean of Admission at a highly, highly selective Ivy..will not reveal the name out in the open!!) The thing is, she sure knows her way around. And this year, we had two people into Yale, one into Amherst, Gerogetown, MIT, Princeton, Brown and so on. From a class of 50 approximately. My point is, she knows I am restricted by the common application, and she does that with all of her applicants. So I do not see why it would harm me, if I would show a little bit more of myself..
For example, i have posted this before, but cumulatively I am going to be secretary general next year, I have internships at consulates, mentorships with consuls, debates, impromptu speaking, NSLC international diplomacy(and the hexalingual issue). Common ap hinders me, so I am not going to restrict myself. I ahve taken this decision long ago, and I will stick to it, primarily because my future is predicated upon it. But this is just my conviction:)

I think it is integral to attach a CV if common application limits you. I do not have 10000 ecs, but the common application is not designed to cope with the needs of the applicants of the superselective colleges. That is why I believe it is important to try to break free from it. After all, could it harm??
No...

Its your choice debate_addict we were just ventilating our opinions. The choice is yours :) Do you really think the admission officers have time to go through a really long list when they have other apps to look at?!
