Class of 2012!

Hi, I was just wondering if some of you Rice kids that were accepted this year could just post your stats (SATs, GPA, ecs, etc!) and why you applied to and chose Rice! Also, if anyone got in by early decision, could you please message me??

Thank you! :)

We posted all those stats on a thread back when decisions were coming out, just do a search and you should find it.
Also, I got in ED; you can message me questions if you'd like.

hey love!
my stats are horrible but i remember putting them on the rice thread that beef is talking about. just don't scream when you see them...
anyway! ummm...why rice? well, i was doing this scholarship (questbridge.org) and i got the opportunity to apply to rice for free. so, i did. lol but back then i was a MAJOR emory fan.
i eventually got invited to rice for the "visions 2008" program and rice was paying for everything so i figured i should go you know? even though i was a HARDCORE emory fan i decided to go to rice with an open mind and i ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!! lol the social atmosphere was awesome, the people were awesome, the campus was awesome, and the profs were awesome (dude. i talked to like...every prof that i saw lol. Hutchinson (sp???), a chem prof was SO cool and approachable). everything was just...awesome.
then i went to emory later on during spring break for their "multicultural weekend".
ergh. i must admit...emory kids know how to party (yay! lol) but, everyone was so...segregated. and i never got to talk to profs!!!! lol and everything during that weekend seemed disorganized and they gave us NOTHING to do. we were SO bored.
also. emory sucks up your scholarship $ :(
BUT i am SO glad i'm going to rice. even though how i am getting there is kinda sticky, i know that once i DO get there, it'll be worth it. (and plus...i knew that i would be TRES miserable if i went to emory....i think that i'll thrive more at rice!)
i'm proud to be a rice owl!!!!!!!!!
class of 2012!!!
:)
PS sorry my post is so...long. lol
PPS choose rice!

SATs Math: 800, Reading: 680: Writing: 660 <-I'm not english major
SATIIs Math 2: 800, Chem: 740, US: 780

Took 8 aps total in high school. 5 senior year.

GPA: 3.8, weighted is 4.6

But what got me in I think was more of my essays. I talked about how I was did a lot of research so they gave me a research thing. That's why I think they care more about your essays. If you have Alyson, (west coast admission officer) she puts a lot of effort. She visited my school and she explained she tries to put a face with your essays.

Although scores matter, they want more of interesting people which appears in essays. I was accepted to Harvey Mudd too, and one of my essays talked about a food I like. The officer wrote I hope you bring some to Mudd. However, it is kind of a coin flip with some essays. I showed my english teacher and she hated it, however another english teacher loved it. You need to take some risks. Just nothing too extreme.

Yah, I wasn't interested in Rice at first. I picked Rice because they seemed to have picked me. I don't know why I picked, maybe the more personal attention? Money partially, but all the other schools seemed giant and the same.

hmm, from what you guys are saying and what i've been reading, essays are KEY!!! i hope some of you will proof-read them for me once i'm done! :]]

grashapa1-how do i get in contact with my local admission officer?? i keep researching but i can't seem to find how to find the one closest to me...

Umm, my essays totally sucked, and I was still accepted, and I will being attending. :D
