We just visited Ithaca College and the admissions office said for next year’s MT applicants the department was looking for a smaller yield of 9 students. Does anyone know why the decrease?

Yes. The past two years of MT Acceptances have been much larger than the yield we usually want or expect. We usually look for a yield of 12. The Class of 2011 started with 16 MTs and and Class of 2012 has around 16-18 as well. IC's program works much better with smaller class sizes and this is why next years yield will be much smaller.

It's good to know this kind of info going in! Best of luck to the OP in his or her child's audition season. The people at Ithaca are very nice.

GPA/SAT scores needed to get in?

MTguy....there is usually not a "cut off" for SAT or GPA at any program. You need to examine the SAT range and average GPA of admitted students to a university which is available in most college directories, as well as US News and World Report's college issue, and on many college's own websites.

The academic criteria for the BFA is not different than for the college.

Here is the mid range of SAT's for those admitted to Ithaca College (there is no such data for those admitted to the BFA itself):
MID RANGE:
CR: 530-640
M: 540-640
CR/M combined: 1070-1280

Orange perhaps you can tell the OP what this means in the way of acceptances being offered in relation to wanted yield. Will there be twice as many acceptances offered to yield that net? and is there a boy/girl ratio at Ithaca?

We just came from the audition for Sept. 2009 entrance for MT--this would be the class of 2013. The director told the applicants they were looking for a class of 16, and would accept 32 hoping to get the 16. If they got more students than the 16, they would add additional classes if needed to accomodate the larger class.

Yes, can verify that, we were there too, for the morning session. He also said they're looking for an acting class of 20, implying 40 acceptances, and all MT's would be potentially considered for acting as well, it they weren't accepted for MT...
