Class of 2015: College Lists

@Hawkace‌ I’m pretty sure you can choose between the SAT and ACT. If you want, you can call and double check, but my friend is a Pres Scholar and I’m 99% sure she only did the SAT (likewise, only doing the ACT should be fine).
<a href=“Temple expands academic scholarship program | Temple Now”>http://news.temple.edu/news/2012-10-08/temple-expands-academic-scholarship-program</a> here’s an article about it, and from the article it looks like you’re guaranteed the scholarship if you have qualifying stats, but I might be wrong about that.

Also keep in mind that it’s a full tuition scholarship, not a full ride - you have to pay for books and housing yourself, I believe.

and just in case you guys haven’t seen this thread yet, it’s a goldmine: <a href=“Automatic Full Tuition / Full Ride Scholarships - Financial Aid and Scholarships - College Confidential Forums”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/financial-aid-scholarships/1348012-automatic-full-tuition-full-ride-scholarships.html</a></p>

If you have a high GPA and SAT, you have a bunch of free or very cheap schooling options.

@marshmallowpop, thank you so much for the info!

@AnImpAffliction‌ haha no problem! It’s my pleasure :)

@marshmallowpop, one last question: do you have any idea how good their computer science program is? I’m looking for their ranking and I can’t find it.

@marshmallowpop @animpaffliction idk if it’s the same but for Alabama’s pres scholarship I’m using the ACT

@AnImpAffliction‌ I just googled it :stuck_out_tongue: http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-colleges/temple-university-216339/overall-rankings</a> Looks like it’s 112th, at least according to USNews

@marshmallowpop, okay thanks!! :)

MIT (in my dreams)
UC Berkeley
UMich
Texas A&M
University of New Mexico
ASU (in state)

University of Texas-Austin
University of a Texas-Arlington( if capped)
SMU *
University of Houston *
North Texas *
Pittsburgh *

Other then UT I really have no idea

= may apply

Boston University
Emory University
UIUC
Indiana University at Bloomington
Lehigh (probably ED)
UMBC
UMCP
University of Michigan
University of Texas at Austin

Another update…

 1. University of Massachusetts Amherst
 2. Northeastern University
 3. Bentley University
 4. Quinnipiac University
 5. Florida State University
 6. Syracuse University
 7. Hofstra University
 8. Stetson University
 9. Rider University (in-state)

@marshmallowpop What? I had no idea it was that “easy” to get a full ride at UAlabama. I was expecting the requirements to be something like 4.0 and 2300, not 3.5 and 1400 CR+M

Yeah, it is. That’s why I already applied! @cosmological

I have to finalize my college list today. AHHHH THE STRESS!

Planned major= Economics/Business. Minor= Political Science.
Hispanic, Male, 2090 SAT (Till Oct.), 3.7 UWGPA, Class Rank 19/385 (5%)
Intern at Non-Profit Community Organization, 4 Varsity Sports
Good EC’s, Good Rec Letters, Good Writer. Decent comm. service/leadership roles.
(Only putting all this out there in case someone similar is reading.)

That being said,
Will send applications to the following 12 schools:

Reaches: Vanderbilt, Stanford, Penn, Harvard, Yale.
Matches: North Carolina, Virginia, Carnegie Mellon, William & Mary.
Safeties: UT Austin (in state+auto admission), Georgia, South Carolina.

@Cosmological‌ yeah, I found that list in general surprising. I always thought you only got full rides for 2400’s and 4.0’s, but it seems that’s not the case. Lucky for us, haha!

@elf4EVA‌ why do you have to finalize it now? Lol, I know I’ll end up doing it in the fall.
I have a friend who applied to Yale EA (and got in), and she literally decided to apply the night before the EA app was due  I figure as long as I don’t wait until the last minute like her, I’ll be good.

Ha! Maybe I am the only one, but I’d much rather go to a top tier school for my graduate degree. You can get a great undergraduate education basically anywhere you go. I’m going to save my money for grad school and go where I can get the best education in my field.

Of course, if money wasn’t a factor I would be applying to lots of the elite schools that have been mentioned above copious times.

As that’s not the case, my (not finalized) list is as follows:
1.University of Arizona-Safety (In State Option)
2.Northern Arizona University- Safety (In State Option)
3.University of Portland- Safety/Match
4. University of Washington- Safety/Match (UW is my first choice but OOS tuition is ridiculous)
5.UCLA-Reach
6.NYU-High Match/ Low Reach
7.Columbia-Reach

@LovelyLashes I totally agree with you about the “top tier school for grad degree” thing. UW is actually my top choice for grad school as of now, coincidentally (it’s one of the top in the nation for library science). Before my parents said I had to stay in the northeast for undergrad, it was my top choice for that, too. I visited twice, haha ^.^ Good luck! :)
