that’s great @zebrarunner! Can’t wait to hear about all of his acceptances! So you are done auditioning then??? That’s great!! Excited to hear where you S ends up!!

My D heard back, she got into uArts! She was extremely happy with that. Scholarship info is coming around the holidays. Praying that she gets a decent scholarship to make the school more affordable!! Fingers and toes crossed as well!

The Montclair audition went well. There were about 30 dancers in there. My D enjoyed the audition classes, so I was glad to hear that. Especially after the whole dance day thing. She said there were 3 boys in the audition. She felt the ballet class was extremely simple but really liked the teacher. She really enjoyed the modern class a lot. Definitely her style. Then they had to do their solos. They were told a minute a half but that they told them they will cut them off after about 45 seconds. Then they had an interview. She said that was nice and easy, nothing too scary. It was a long day, but overall she left there pretty happy and Montclair moved up on her list for sure.

She had to postpone her Pace audition though, she has Nutcracker tech rehearsal the same day as the Pace audition, and with the roles she has, she felt it was best to attend the tech run. She will now have her Pace audition in February. She is glad to have a little rest from the auditions for a little while. She has received all acceptances so far, still waiting on Montclair though. I think she is happy to have some great choices.

Some days I wish she looked into some other programs as well (OCU & UofAZ), but she feels that wouldn’t be fair because even if she got into them, she wouldn’t go to them. She really doesn’t want to be that far from home.

Boy is this a long process. Can’t even imagine others who still have most of their auditions this winter.

Wow, congrats on the UArts acceptance, as well as all the previous ones! She is going to have so many great choices! My S’s friend who just finished her first semester at UArts just came home and did a couple classes with S at the studio yesterday evening. She had always been a very good dancer, but S was amazed at how much better she had become in just 3 months at UArts. So they are obviously doing something right!

On your comment about looking at other programs, I know what you mean, as sometimes I feel like S is missing something by not considering every possible school. But there are so many great schools out there, and your D’s not wanting to be too far as far away as OCU or UofAz is a legitimate and understandable concern.

Glad your D will now get a little break before Pace. Did Montclair say when she would hear from them? Fingers crossed for her!

Thanks @zebrarunner! No, they didn’t say, but I think I heard that it’s about 3 weeks after they receive everything needed for your application. So hopefully we hear soon! Any word yet on any of your S’s auditions? He is in Tulane right?! That’s awesome. My D has a classmate from last year that is at Tulane for academics and he seems really happy!

I just looked through this whole thread, I can’t believe we are the only two with updates!! Is it weird that I go on the Musical Theatre board just to read other updates. I love hearing about everyone’s audition experiences. I hope more people start posting! I get so excited when I hear about others acceptances! This whole process is so stressful and not a lot of people understand how hard it is. So it’s nice to have a place where others “get it”!

Yes @nowmomto3 I have been very surprised by the lack of activity on this board too! I have read through old dance audition threads and it seems like in years past there were more than just 2 going through the process! Hopefully a few more people will jump in with their audition stories, as I am sure that there are more people going to auditions. I agree I love reading about people’s auditions and acceptances, and I have been hanging out on the MT board too just so I don’t feel like I am the only one going through it! I guess the good news is that because our kids aren’t applying to any of the same schools, we are covering a fair number of schools between us!

Yes S is into Tulane for Dance and MT, and should hear in late December from Michigan and Elon Dance, and then JMU dance in January. He still has two apps to finish up (Emory and Northwestern), but I am not quite sure when that is going to happen!

@zebrarunner and @nowmomto3, I’m hanging in there with you because my D went through all this last year. So you have my empathy! I remember December being a time of running to the mailbox every day (for early admissions notices) but then the final letter (the one she was waiting for) didn’t come until mid-April. It’s crazy. You have my support :)

@laurelj84 - Thanks so much for the support! So nice to know that there are “survivors” on the other end of this process! Can I ask where your D ended up going? Hope she had a great first semester!

@zebrarunner - My D is at Pace. She will home at the end of next week (yay!) This weekend is her second show - the first was the faculty show which I did see, and this weekend is the student choreo show that I am missing (NY is a 4-hour plane flight away).

@laurelj84, Pace is a great school - congrats to your D on getting accepted and on finishing her first semester! I am sure you will be thrilled to have her home for the holidays. Hope her show went well - sorry you had to miss it.

I’ll put you out of your misery and post an update on myself… I was just accepted last week to the BFA dance program at the University of Arizona. I auditioned by video (I am from Toronto, Canada and traveling to the school to audition would have been very difficult).

@nowmomto3 it’s my first choice for dance programs. I’m also auditioning for SUNY Purchase and also Ryerson University here in Toronto, but my main goal is a MT school.

My DD auditioned for Ballet Performance BFA at University of Oklahoma back in October. She was offered a position. From what we were told there are approximately 8 to 10 spots open in the ballett program. Don’t know about modern/contemporary. Available spots are a function of how many have left the program the year before (graduation, professional positions, etc).

Not sure how many others recieved offers. Second audtion will occur after the new year.

She had approximately 30 in her session. There was a second session later in the afternoon which looked to contain the same approximate number of dancers.

Hello, my D is planning to minor in dance, so none of her schools require an audition (at least not until she gets there in the fall). However, she was accepted to a wonderful engineering school (Case Western Reserve University) that has a scholarship for artistic kids that don’t plan on majoring in the arts. The dance scholarship is audition-based and she’ll spend a day in the dance department in Feb. CWRU has a dance major, but it’s small program from what I can tell. Reading through your posts has given me a good idea about what she should expect, but if you’ve heard anything about the program or their process I would be really grateful for your input!!

I was curious if anyone has auctioned at FSU, ASU, University of Alabama, University of Georgia, or University of Maryland (scholarship only)? My daughter is looking for a well-rounded, commercial-dance type program that would prepare her for a professional career after graduation and before grad school. She’s also looking for that whole college “football/rah rah” experience - hence these choices. Anyone have any experience with any of these schools - their programs or auditions?

@nj_mom My D has danced with Cornelius Carter (Director of the U Alabama dance program) he was incredible at her Summer Intensive in NY. However, I don’t know much about the overall dance program at U Alabama. I could not get my D to look into it as she wants to be closer to NY. My S attended U Alabama his freshman year and loved it! The whole college life experience was great and he will forever be a Bama fan even though he wants to transfer due to lack of major options. FYI-my S got way more scholarship money from U Alabama than U Maryland.

@nj_mom my D has an RSI friend who just graduated from bama and is now a Rockette. I don’t know much about the program though. We looked into FSU and really liked the program and my D would’ve auditioned there but she doesn’t want to go that far from home and in close proximity to Phila/NYC. We also know one of the FSU Golden Girls and she loves it! I don’t know about ASU but U of Az is an amazing program and is probably the #1 choice referred to for my D but again, too far for her. Another program I have heard good things about is East Carolina.

My D auditioned at U Arizona in September. and will do SUNY Purchase in February, with many in between. This is such a long, grueling process, right?

@kingwood So how have your D’s auditions being going? Hopefully you have been getting some happy results! It is most definitely a grueling process, but S’s auditions are now over - nothing left but the waiting to hear, which is the hardest thing!
My D will be doing most of her auditions in the next several weeks. Trying to relax this weekend before we gear up to travel every weekend. We kick off with Marymount Manhattan on campus next weekend.
@nowmomto3 is Marymount still on your D’s list? My D wants to be in NYC or as close as possible. We observed a class at Marymount last year and my D seemed to think it could be a good fit for her. But I find it odd that there isn’t more info on CC about the program at Marymount. Just wondering how you all are feeling about it.
Also, you can share any insight on U Arts vs Point Park. My D is considering dropping UArts off of her list. She has auditioned for Point Park and liked the teachers who led the auditions. However she has never seen the school, we do have a friend that went there. We visited U Arts one summer, but I can’t figure out how strong their program is.
She has lots of other schools on her list, including Pace.
