Are you sure the admitted number is correct? According to the “Official” USAFA Facebook page (as of June 24, 2011):
“Friday Facebook Fun Fact: There were 12,713 applicants for the Class of 2015 with 1,159 of them earning appointments. This included 10 turnbacks (cadets who can’t attend this year and will maintain a slot for next year) and nine international students. As of this morning, there are 1,138 basic cadets with three in our transition flight (going home).”

I’ve also read that the Class of 2015 is currently at 1086. I think the August newsletter numbers (class size) will be interesting.

The above doesn’t include medical turnbacks or international cadets and was recently distributed by the official Academy channel to Parent’s Clubs. Just wanted to give 2016 candidates a “feel” as to what occurred over the past cycle.

What’s the difference between “Applicants” and “Candidate Pool”? Does everyone go through the appointment process to be admitted?

^^
As I understand the terms:
Applicants = All the people that begin an application on-line
Candidate Pool = All those that complete their applications

To be “Appointed” is to be admitted. You cannot be admitted without being appointed. Yes - everyone must apply and by law also receive a nomination to be admitted.

Remember some applicants will not become candidates due to the fact that they were not deemed competitive enough and the process ends there. Hence, just because you complete the pcq, does not = becoming a candidate.

Qualified candidates are those with noms. Interestingly that number is down from other yrs. Usually it has hovered @ 3000+, so I am wondering if MOCs are no longer “talking”, i.e. spreading the wealth of their noms as much as they had in previous yrs.
