I got in around the 12th (:] :] :]), but I have yet to hear anything about financial aid? Should I be concerned? Thanks! Oh, also, I’m from Maine.

We’re in Colorado and my son still has not received any word on scholarships or financial aid. He is a pretty good student (4.4 GPA 33 ACT) but since he applied to study theater, I wonder if in his major is the merit aid is talent based. Sigh…

My daughter visited Muhlenberg and loved it. She’s thinking about applying early decision (she’s a junior), but isn’t sure whether she should as she would like to get some merit aid. Would those of you who received merit aid take a minute to give me a brief “profile” of yourself? GPA, SAT scores, did you take honors/AP courses in high school, community involvement, etc. We’re not from the area, so we’re really unsure of her chances are… Thanks so much!

Congrats to all who were accepted and are considering Muhlenberg. My son visited as a last minute flyer in November and applied. He’s specifically looking for film studies on the East Coast, and we didn’t discover that Muhlenberg had such a program til the last minute. Got a very nice merit aid and grant package – they really seem to go out of their way to roll out the red carpet for kids they want. We’re visiting again this week. My wife and I loved the community feeling and the small campus – although our son would prefer a bigger city environment, it will be extremely hard to turn down the offer, and he’s cool with that. He got accepted at 7 of 9 schools he applied to (wait list at Columbia, turned down by Penn). SAT: 2160 (750 writing – his common app essay was truly outstanding, IMHO); Grades: lots of honors and AP, Mostly A’s, a couple of B’s, great ECs; he’s done a lot of acting, so he’s comfortable in interview situation, did very well with that. Hope this helps.

cbrand - my D had similar stats to your son and was awarded three scholarships, and she’s a theatre major (that was one of the scholarships), so I think the chances should be on your side.

Since there are so many theatre majors on this thread, I just thought I’d give a head’s up on some cool news… D just found out yesterday that Tony Kushner will be the speaker at commencement this year!

Congrats to the rest of you who have been accepted.

I think the 15k/yr Presidential Scholarship is formula based for those with high SATs (1350ish). There also may be the opportunity to add the Dana Scholarship to that, but that is after admissions with an additional essay.

Muhlenberg is a great community. Especially interesting for those looking to cross over /double-major between drama and the sciences or social sciences…

Cbrand,

“…since he applied to study theater, I wonder if in his major is the merit aid is talent based…” Academic/merit-based aid is separate from talent-based aid a Muhlenberg. That is, a theater student can receive both. This is not true for all schools. This is a big reason why we ended up turning down one BFA program last year. My daughter qualified for a large academic scholarship at the school. But since theater majors were only allowed talent scholarships (which was much smaller) we could not afford the other school.

I had similar scores this year to cbrand’s scores this year when I applied early decision. I received a good chunk of merit scholarship money, so I wouldn’t necessarily let that hold me back, collegesearchnh. If you are concerned, be aware that Muhlenberg’s Early Decision is rolling through February 15th. If you have any concerns about merit money, you will have plenty of time to ask them for a financial aid read, which I believe includes a merit estimate. Good luck to her next year!

Our daughter was awarded a theater scholarship but no merit money. We appealed (and showed a letter from a direct competitor offering a merit scholarship). The same day we were awarded a merit scholarship. The fact is our d was going to Muhlenberg anyway but it was nice to see an extra effort.

my S will be a theatre major in the fall, too.
He was also awarded a talent scholarship, but no merit money. He was waitlisted at first then received his call early this week so we weren’t expecting money at all .
I never thought to appeal based on the merit money he got at other schools… hhmmm.
