Who will be auditioning with me next year?! Never too early to get prepared!

My son will! He’s busy getting all his stuff together now. Where else are you auditioning?

Well BoCo is my number one choice, but I’m definitely not putting all my eggs in one basket. I’m also auditioning at CCM, Carnegie Mellon, Ithaca, Emerson, Indiana, Ball State, and more at the Chicago Unifieds.

I’ll be auditioning next year too! I just visited BoCo this spring break and fell in love with it!

Ill be auditioning next year! Visited last week and loved it! Also planning on NYU, CMU, CCM, Ithaca, Emerson, UMiami, UMichigan.

These are all phenomenal schools, guys! Just remember to get some safety schools, just in case, as they are also very competitive. Unifieds is a great place to audition for some safety schools, both academically and talent-wise. Also a non-audition safety that you love (possibly a B.A.) is great to have, not that I don’t think you aren’t talented.

BoCo is phenomenal and I wish y’all the best of luck!

Prospective students: make sure the list you’re compiling could be accurately titled MUSICAL THEATRE SCHOOLS I HAVE A SHOT AT GETTING INTO and not TOP MUSICAL THEATRE SCHOOLS. Please include a broad range of schools in your list, and, as AlexaMT suggests, include at least one non-audition school. And be willing to attend your safety school should it come to that!

PS: BoCo is a fabulous school…my D is learning and growing and getting better all the time, and she loves it there.

hey guys! i was accepted into boston conservatory this year for musical theatre. im going to syracuse instead, but heres some advice from someone whos auditioned:

i auditioned at the unifieds in LA. i dont think going to an on-campus audition gives you that much of an advantage; my friend and i both auditioned at LA unifieds and got in. they really like musical theatre performers who have trained voices - so make sure youre in voice lessons (which im sure everyone is at this point, haha)

also- they like musicians. the panel will ask you some questions about your experience: can your read music, can you sight read, can you hold a harmony part, etc. its not make-or-break, but its great to be able to say you can. i know that helped me out.

last but not least- if you havent taken dance classes yet, START NOW! ive been a dancer for a long time, but the boco dance audition was by far the hardest i had. the combo was long, taught very quickly, and was NOT just little jazz squares and kicks. i had to be on overdrive the entire time trying to remember it. they also told us multiple times to tell a story with our dance and put emotion into it, so make sure you think about that.

sorry for the speech, i just wanted to share what i got out of the audition experience so you guys can get ready as much as possible! GOOD LUCK :)

Thank you SO much, mtmuffin. I have been taking voice, and I am a well-trained tenor. As far as dancing goes, I’m not horrible but I could use some work. I am taking ballet this summer and fall to get a good foundation of knowledge and preparing for auditions in the winter! I am so excited!!!

Here is new Workshop for people to consider: The Arts Edge

The unique nature of this program is the focus on college admissions, the audition, and the application process"

I couldn’t find anything about The Arts Edge online. Could you post a website or something?

I’ll be auditioning next year too! I visited it last week and I loved it. Especially the fact that music theory is a big part of it.

BoCo2015 taking ballet is the absolute smartest decision you could make! itll give you such an advantage.

The Art’s Edge…

The most amazing opportunity…wish my daughter had it…can you imagine two weeks with Roger Grotsky and Neil Donohoe, as well as other from NYU and Carnegie Mellon…this is a no brainer for any serious auditioner. You get to actually meet with the guys that ultimately decide your fate…

hi:

I’ve been getting a lot of PM’s asking for more information on the arts edge. the website is theartedege dot com. I think this website does not allow for posting webmail addresses. you can also call 617 823.6564 and speak to Halley.

Arts Edge looks great. What do out of towners do for room and board? The part I don’t like is that I’d have to “baby sit,” as the daughter is less than 18 this summer.
Thanks MT Muffin for the details about your audition. Very helpful.

Classicalbk:

Suggest you call Haley. Seeing this is for kids under 18, they probably have this worked out.

I was accepted to this program, does anyone have any info on it.I heard there is more attention to opera than mt,is it worth going to and would it help my chances to get in for the class of 2015?

mtmuffin I was at LA auditions for BoCo as well! And got accepted!
What mtmuffin says is completely correct.
If you’ve been dancing all your life like I have, it will be refreshing to learn a combo at such a fast pace and with so much emotion and creativity. But if you haven’t had much training, don’t fret. If you sell it and pretend you have the training, you will shine anyway. I had a really fun time in my audition and after the Q&A with Michelle Chasse’, felt I knew so much more about the school, and fell totally in love with it!
My singing and acting audition was really fun as well. Just go in with a positive attitude and show 'em what you got. Tell them interesting things about yourself that will set you apart when they ask questions. Show them you have personality, and the talent and skill set to match it.

Be prepared as you go through these auditions. I did 10 auditions. I did my very best and felt very good vibes about all of them, yet only got into 2 schools. Be ready for that. Don’t think that even though you did well at your audition, there aren’t another 100 they saw that did that well the same day. But have faith that you will get lucky!

Break a leg with all of this! Its a stressful time. But make it fun!

BoCo’s on my list, too! Granted, it’s on my “REACH” list, so I’m not 100% on my chances of getting in, but the audition’s months from now- no need to worry too much about it now.

I will be auditioning as well! i graduated from high school this year and planned on majoring in theater/minoring in music at the college of idaho but have since decided that musical theater is the path for me so i will be going to unifieds during my first year at C of I. schools of preference are BoCo, Roosevelt, CMU, CCM, AMDA, and Pace. Im currently in CATS which has been a blast, hopefully my dance training will be enough at auditions!
