Class of 2016 RD!!

Those who have heard back already: do they email you and say something along the lines of “Check your Gibson account,” or did you just check yourself and it happened to be posted…?

Also, is it alarming at all or mean anything if I submitted my application in late November and still haven’t received a decision?

They do not email you, you have to keep checking your Gibson account. Otherwise, you wouldn’t know until you got the decision in the snail mail.

As far as the timing, it is both good news and bad news. Bad news is they aren’t seeing something that would cause them to take you already. Might not be academic record; other things like no indication of strength of interest in Tulane could be it. Good news is they also are not seeing anything that causes them to say “no” right away, either. Getting kind of late, but if Tulane is your for sure #1 choice regardless of financial aid, then you should let your admissions counselor know that and why that is so.

Please just waiting. Maybe you guides can get a lot of scholarship from Tulane! Best of luck!!

P.S: Tulane’s admission package was sent by postal mail!! You have to wait for a long time if you live outside USA.

“other things like no indication of strength of interest in Tulane could be it.”

I’ve always wondered if that is really true. How would they know (assuming you don’t send a letter)? When we took tours of schools they didn’t take our name. My D didn’t show interest in any school (at least that they would know about) but that hasn’t stopped several of them from admitting her early even though she didn’t apply EA to some of them. I’m just astounded that my D’s app has been at Tulane since early Dec and hasn’t been acted on. Luckily, it is probably her lowest ranked choice but I don’t see how they would know that.

Well, if you visit Tulane you would give your name to the admissions office before going on a guided tour. Same if you attend a Tulane event in your area, like at a local hotel. Also the Tulane app has an optional “Why Tulane” question, but not filling it out is taken as an indication that it is just another school on a list, and of course if one does fill it out then they can judge the quality of the reason given. Finally, applying EA or especially SCEA shows more interest than applying RD.

So yes, indication of interest is definitely a factor in the case of Tulane, and there are several ways to show it. I think it is especially relevant when a student has Ivy League type of stats and doesn’t really show much interest. That is a strong indication that Tulane is being used as a “safety” school by that student. I don’t think it is unreasonable that Tulane wouldn’t show much enthusiasm for acting on that student.

I guess I am not sure why you are astonished that she has not heard yet. She obviously applied RD, and Tulane doesn’t promise decisions on RD before April 1. I know many hear earlier, so maybe it is mildly surprising, but you shouldn’t be that amazed about it.

I assume it is all rather academic based on some of your other posts, although I certainly did not look at them all. Sounds like she has a good offer from Clemson.

FC- I think it must be the essay because even if you give your name at an event they probably either don’t put it in a data base, or don’t match it. With tens of thousands of applicants I would bet there are tons of duplicates and you wouldn’t want to give credit to John C Smith when John B Smith really had the interest.

I was only surprised about the lack of notice since almost everything I read said that most people were hearing within a few weeks of their application (especially those who applied early).

And yes it is academic. She will in all likelihood take up either UVA or W&M on their offer. We applied to Tulane because of the free app, the warm climate, and the hope of a full ride. Since she missed the free ride deadline it has been really off the radar. It’s a great school and good luck to all who make it this year.

IMHO Tulane does their best to track interest before guided tours because both of my kids took the tour & admissions did inquire about whether each had applied. Tulane had sufficient to track them.

TV4caster - Yes, I did notice on some of your other posts that you would really like to see her at W&M, lol. Both (them and UVA) GREAT schools, so she will have a wonderful experience either way, I am sure. I have been to UVA a couple of times, so much history and tradition. W&M is one of the places I really want to see someday, I have heard the campus is stunningly beautiful. Of course, tons of history and tradition there as well.

Congrats to her for those successes.

@fallenchemist I tried to show as much interest as I could in my application and my essays (including the ‘Why Tulane?’) were really strong; Tulane is one of my top choices but not my #1. Also, I am not applying for financial aid, so that’s not why either. I guess there isn’t really anything to do but wait. Hopefully it’ll end up being more of a positive sign than a negative. Thanks for your knowledgable feedback.

lavenir - yes, I think that is all you can do. But at least it can’t be much longer. I wish you the best of luck.
