@AlmostThere2018 Really? It seemed like (on the August SAT at least) me, and many posters on CC got 790s and 800s in math and lower scores in English. I got a 800M 760E. Anecdotal evidence, but doesnt match up with what your CC said.
Interestingly, on both the ACT and PSAT I did (margenally) better on reading/english.
@snowfairy137 The info I got was earlier this year – early spring – so it was the relative new days of the redesigned SAT. Perhaps if I were to talk with her again she’d say she’s seen a change this Fall as they’ve tinkered with it…who knows!? Glad you rocked it – well done!
Thanks @AlmostThere2018 that is helpful to know regarding the SAT Math scores. Your very well-connected GC could well be right. And @snowfairy137 - you are probably correct as well! How can that be? Well, because the scales of this exam can still be far from set, so there is a weird variability in terms of not only difficulty but harshness of the curve from one test to the next. Fortunately, colleges seem to be accepting superscores; however, that’s small comfort when you are tying to nail a particular score from a single administration of the test. The big issue is that the PSAT is NOT predicting your SAT score particularly well and they need to fix that “little” glitch so that the two exams align better. Also, some weird stuff can go on at the far right tail of any test, not just the SAT, and if the scaling is off then it can really impact that small section of the curve - the very location where you all happen to dwell
Seems like a cruel joke that D’s SAT score still shows as “Pending” on the CB website. [-( I’m so glad I woke up all throughout the night and then for good at 5am because of these scores. I’m sooo tired, which doesn’t lend itself to the utmost patience. :(( @-) #-o
Sorry for my venting earlier. D’s SAT score was released around 4:30pm on Friday (thankfully) and she got a 221 SI so she’s all set with a confirming score. We are so relieved. Good luck to all!
@18college1111 If you got 231, you may have miscalculated since 228 is the highest possible SI.
For the purposes of calculating your PSAT SI, SAT subscores are capped at 38. Even if you got a 39 or 40 on a particular section, you’ll have to use 38 for the SI conversion.
Either way, it sounds like you have a fabulous score. Congrats!
