Class of 2018- Why do you choose Duke?

My main reason for choosing Duke as my #1 school is because of their balanced lifestyle. Their academics are renowned and they are known to have a close-knit community! What's your main reason?

Same reason-the amazing balance at Duke between academics and a fun college experience. I have never liked being around people who are overly academic/only focused on work. I really want a school with students who were down to earth and want to have a good time, but at the same time will provide me with a fantastic education and opportunities. Duke seems like the perfect match  (and Stanford too)

Anyway-hope we’ll both be apart of the class of 2018

are you applying ED? I’m battling weather to go Stanford SCEA or Duke ED - any opinions?

Duke ED. ED helps a lot, where SCEA marginally helps. Then again, ED is binding, so you have to actually really like the school you’re applying to. At the end of the day though, it really comes down to would you rather be at Stanford or Duke? Statistically you’ll have a much better advantage at Duke ED, which is a safer bet than the EAs and RDs.

Duke has been my #1 choice for a long time because it offers strong programs in what I want to study plus great student organizations and community. I adore the campus, and the Ark dance studio is one of the coolest buildings I’ve ever been in. The campus looked gorgeous even on a rainy day.

I am applying ED because it is perfect for me. I love the spirit that the students have. They have fun. They work hard. There are many research opportunities, so I can continue my research. Everyone is friendly. They have incredible programs like DukeEngage. Its beautiful. I could go on and on, but I really love everything about it. I really hope I get accepted.

so nervous guys!!!

Why? Because the notification comes out in TWELVE DAYS? (For Ed applicants) if yes, then me too! Lol. But honestly Im more excited than nervous. There’s a slim chance I’ll be accepted but its exciting to know that there’s an answer soon :)

so decisions are for sure on the 15 and not any earlier? when will they send us the email telling us when to check our emails? or do we check the portal?

The way I understand it decisions will most likely be released between the 13th and 15th. We will receive an email telling us to check the portal, Duke’s decision is posted there.

I think it’s similar to how the act releases their scores. They have a set date. Duke’s set date is the 15th. I believe they will send an email reporting that decisions are posted on their website and will provide a link. In response to ‘knockaround’- I didn’t know their was a chance of receiving a response before the 15th! If this is indeed the case… I hope I’m one of the lucky people who gets theirs the 13th!

I’m not excited for the possibility of receiving my decision on Friday the 13th…

“ED Decision applicants to Duke University may view their admissions decision online beginning 6:00pm on Thursday, Decemeber 12, 2013.” -email that was just sent out

so how do we know if we will be a thursday person or a sunday person?

You won’t know, you just have to wait and see.

No person will be receiving their decisions on Sunday. It’s now all being released Thursday. That was the point of the email.

RedKnightmare is correct- all decisions will be out Thursday

I really regret that I didn’t apply Duke for ED…:(

same…it’d be nice to already have a decision…oh well
