So far this seems to have been a bonding experience for my wife and D. They’ve been on three trips so far while S and I have stayed home. There has been less mother/daughter bickering (please tell me it’s normal) and more of a sense of shared experiences from their adventures. They were in Nashville last weekend and fell in love with the city. Next weekend they’ll be off to Florida. I’m looking forward to Chicago Unifieds because we’re only 90 miles away and I’ll be able to spend a couple of days with D while Mom stays home.

I have to say also that D has surprised us a bit throughout the process. I can see her becoming more confident about her skills (but definitely not a diva) and she has taken all of the prescreen rejections in stride. She’s proud of the few callbacks that she’s received and that’s the end of it. It’s good to see that in your kid.

I definitely have a better appreciation of what my S is made of. I’m very proud of him, this process has made me more in awe of him as I could never do what he’s doing. He has also shown more appreciation for me than ever, its so nice to hear “I could not have done this without my mom”. We’ll be on the road the next two weekends. I plan to really relax and have fun. He has 2 acceptances, he’s happy with both programs so I’m going to TRY to stop worrying so much and just enjoy our alone time on the road.

Yes, MTMC, you can stop worrying and enjoy the upcoming trips! Your talented S already has two great options!

Hearing those “Mom I couldn’t have done this without you” makes everything worth it. My D has been so wonderfully appreciative and I am savoring every moment we have left together this year. She will be gone before I know it. <3

My S got another academic acceptance in the mail today. Yay? I think that’s number 7 now. It’s so weird. I want to be excited for him yet it feels so hollow without the artistic acceptances. Of course they send the fancy congratulations folders too.

And don’t forget the car decals! Son has 8 academic acceptances so far, two are safeties. Let’s look to the day we can slap that school decal on the car window!!
Today son received e-mail from a school he is auditioning for next weekend at Unifieds (I’d rather not say which one). The e-mail said they had not received his packet with the audition app, transcript, head shot, etc.
Luckily I had mailed it registered mail and I had the receipt to prove it was accepted and signed for by someone in the Dept. I also went online to my bank and e-mailed the school a copy of the endorsed and deposited check for the audition fee. The check was attached to the packet of info. We can bring copies of everything, but now I have something to ruminate over, as if I needed a new bone to gnaw on! I was thankful to learn now that they mislaid his material and we have time to bring another set, and I suppose I should be glad this is the only snafu out of 15 schools, but sheesh…

Almost wish my D was auditioning at Rider this weekend! Have a great time everyone and BAL to all!

Car decals! We could almost wallpaper D’s room with CCU Chanticleer decals! Sitting in a hotel with D right now… Audition at ONU tomorrow. I agree, so far we have really enjoyed traveling together. Dad holds down the home front because he inadvertently exacerbates D’s nerves. The hope is that when it’s time to make a decision he will visit then, when nerves are not a concern!

I just spoke with H, who was conscripted for today’s audition because I won’t drive four hours through snow, and had to relay last nights events. After 4 1/2 hours in the snowy weather, they arrived at the hotel around 9:30. They settled in and all was good. However at midnight the fire alarm went off! They ended up having to spend an hour outside in the car waiting to be allowed back in at 1:30. It turns out there was a fight and they used fire extinguishers against each other. And this is at a nice Hilton Garden!! H said there was a mother and daughter there who weren’t too keen on going back inside. This will end up being a funny story to tell, I just hope it doesn’t affect any of the kids’ auditions. The good part for my D is that for her it’s a scholarship audition for VP minor as opposed to one of her MT auditions.

Kategrizz - would love to hear a report on ONU at end of day!! Good luck to your D!!

I will post about it in the audition day thread later tonight or tomorrow!

kategrizz - My D loved her ONU audition! She had the hardest time declining their offer. Have fun and BAL to your D. (And at least those CCU decals are a fabulous shade of teal!)

I haven’t contributed to this thread in a while… not much to write about because of the lull in my son’s audition calendar (starts up again next weekend.) But, since this is a sharing thread, I guess I can brag a little. Son was just cast as the Emcee in his high school’s production of Cabaret. He’s super excited about it because the role is WAY outside of his comfort zone. (He’s usually plays the male romantic lead types). My younger son-- 8th grade-- was also cast as a Kit Kat Klub waiter, so I’ll get to see both of my boys in the same production. The rehearsal schedule totally coincides with the next 6 weeks of auditions, but I’m hoping that maybe he’ll be in “the zone” this whole time. Now-- just to keep him healthy!!

Yay and congratulations SU88BFA and sons. How cool to see two children in the same production! Also great your son has an opportunity to try something new, and in a super cool role too! My son is also rehearsing for a late March musical, and I was annoyed because he has only been singing “Maria” and not his audition songs, but then I think it is a good distraction.

Congrats to your son, it’s a great role! And tell him to take heart about it being out of his comfort zone. Some of the pros have been in the same position - Raul Esparza, Adam Pascal, Michael Hall, John Stamos. Not everyone can be an Alan Cumming! Bravo to your high school for doing the show, and enjoy watching both your boys onstage together.

I love love Cabaret!! Congrats to your son.

Hi, anxious to hear what parents and kids are feeling after the BW auditions this weekend. My DD went with her dad (a big deal for us, since 95% of her young career has involved me as a chaperone!) Any reports?

Dramamom5, check the 2013-2014 audition day review thread, there is a report from the November audition and another from the auditions this weekend.

We were also at BW yesterday, my D’s first audition. Have to say we absolutely loved this school & their program! Very impressive how well they train these kids & they really seem to have thought this thru, they are focused on training the students & helping them to make it in the industry after graduation. Watching the master class was amazing! My D’s audition went fine, Vicki picked which 2 songs, then she did 1 monologue, she said she thought it went fine, couldn’t believe how quickly it went by. We had a chance for a little Q & A w/Vicki & Scott before they watched the kids dance & I asked how they choose… Vicki said “passion!” & that they can see those that have it & those that don’t!
I hope my D’s passion came thru! :-)
