Class of 2018 (yikes!) - Sharing,Venting, Etc

Travel to the Cleveland area should be fine this weekend. Clear and very cold on Saturday (highs in the teens) and snow showers- 3-6"- on Sunday. Berea hasn’t been hit as hard as the lakefront areas this winter but be aware that the roads in the Cleveland area are snow covered- expressways are clear- but potholes are massive and there is black ice on the sidewalks. Be very careful walking around campuses because you really don’t want to take a hard fall out there.
Safe travels and the best of luck to everyone!

I’m glad that we switched too because it snowed again last night, giving us another inch or two and it’s supposed to snow again tonight!

Thanks for the Cleveland update Mezzo’sMama, we were headed to B-W his weekend but our flight was canceled on the NYC end but as I said, B-W is lovely and will let my daughter send in videos for her audition. This snow is enough to make you crazy though, glad we got most of her auditions in before the really horrible weather hit the East coast!

It’s so nice to hear how accommodating all of the colleges are being. For us, being able to send in a video is not only keeping us off the snowy roads, but also saving hotel and travel money and allowing D to make the first rehearsal for Fiddler, which she is very happy about. BAL to everyone that was actually able to get to their auditions today!

A MUST WATCH… on pbs.org National Theater 50 Years on Stage…best 2 hours I’ve spend in a long time.

Yippee! We’re done traveling for auditions. The snow and ice gods really smiled on us and we were truly blessed in this 4-month odyssey. Now we just sit around and . . .

Waiting sucks!!! That is all.

Call me crazy but the waiting for financial aide and possible any scholarship is worse for me than waiting on the acceptance. Its beyond great to have acceptances but if in the end they are too far out of reach financially…ughghh can’t even finish that.

I’ve been adding up the money spent on the audition process alone (headshots, resumes, travelling, etc.). It sucks too! My D has 2 rejections from schools we had to travel to & chalking up those expenses as a loss reallly sucks lol. I know I know, at least we had quality time together.

Okay I’m on a roll lolol…you know what else sucks? The amount I’ve aged in just 6 months! The stress has taken its toll on me and I’ve become a college website portal stalker to boot!

And I’m mean to our mailman when he doesn’t deliver mail from colleges!

@DoReMiMom, well at least you didn’t total a rental car returning from an audition at a school that was at the bottom of your kid’s list. I think in the adding up the auditions costs, I win! :-)

Wow, DRMMom, you were on a serious roll! I refuse to add up all the costs because I’m pretty sure I would never leave my bed if I did!

WOW halflofum - I’m so sorry to hear that. Ouch - yes you def win :frowning: And GSOMTMom- people have the winter blues, I feel like we have the MT Audition Blues! Hmmm…just dawned on me, I bet the schools get a real kick out of the parents during this process.

What is slowly starting to creep in for me is the fact that my D is actually going to be leaving home…I have been so busy that that point has been pushed to the darkest recesses of my mind…I am getting sad…

I put it all on one credit card so I know exactly how much it all cost me so far…add additional nights and meals due to the weather and there goes my tax refund.

I too am an internet surfer…now I’m even looking at other kids friends, on twitter etc…I’m off the deep end LOL

I’m sad too bisouu. S had his final classical voice recital last night, the man that owns the performing arts school said to me “I can’t believe he’s leaving me soon” such a sweet sweet guy and they are very close. Made me all choked up…

@GSOMTMom. I feel the way you do. I never added it all up from last year

In this great adventure, I think I lucked out a little. We saved a bit last weekend by taking the video audition option (due to the weather), and D will most likely be backing out of her last audition (the most expensive trip). Although it wasn’t done on purpose, the amount saved on these two trips will pay for D’s car insurance! Traveling to all of her auditions has been an amazing experience, though. Watching D grow in maturity and refine what she wants from college has made me feel a lot better about her leaving home in 6 months.

LOL! My husband ASKED me last night to add it up for him. Is he NUTS? Why would he want to know that? But my guess is we could have bought a car with the $$$

@MsMommy, you mean like I did? :-)
