Still silence from all schools…and that’s not good. Please pass the valium.

In school today, I got a call from a number I didn’t recognize and they left a message (I couldn’t answer in class). I was freaking out because I knew Wagner was calling people this week, but it turned out to be someone from my job. Then my dad picks me up, I get in the car, and he’s holding a large envelope from Wagner with the biggest smile on his face (he LOVED Wagner) and he’s all like “congratulations!!!” I had to tell him that they only call for acceptances, no letters…major bummer. I got waitlisted though, which is better than nothing, especially because I had the worst cold ever during my audition…but ugh, two false alarms for the same school within a few hours… :-L it was a frustrating day.

Ugh, @daniellececelia, that is a crappy day. Hugs to you!

Don’t worry Danielle, you have Hart and I know you will get off the wait list at one of your schools. This is such a hard process, and you are navigating it with kindness and grace. Your parents must be so proud of you.

My D got that same HUGE envelope with the green folder in it from Wagner last year. Waitlisted for the program, but with a nice merit award (?). Make sure and contact your admissions counselor and tell her that you are interested in staying on the waitlist and that Wagner is a top choice for you (if that is true).

So what does it mean when your S pressures you into calling the school’s admin office to see when the acceptances will come out and, you are asked your S’s name. After revealing it, there is a LONG pause and then you’re hurriedly told you will have to wait for another couple of weeks but no later than April 1st. It felt like she was looking at a list during the long pause. Or am I losing my mind? Hubby thinks so.

I wouldn’t read too much into it Ikemom, one thing I learned quickly is the admissions dept and the MT programs rarely seem to be on the same page. She probably wasn’t sure where to look for him or what the deadlines were.

@ikemom – we’ve all lost our minds at this point.

Thanks MTMajorcook - we’ve heard about four different deadlines for this school and it’s number 1 on our list.
EastchesterMom - Glad to hear it - misery loves company! :-S

Help. Son has scholarship audition tomorrow he is a finalist and has been sick all week. Can hardly get 3 notes out without coughing any quick remedies? He’s been steaming, drinking tea with honey and lemon dont know what else to do.

Throat Coat (herbal tea) and a Netti Pot (if he’s stuffy too).

@NewYorkSon you have done all of the rt things, but i suggest throat coat. Also, keep him away from Dairy. And tell him to break a leg!

Vick’s Vapor Rub all over soles of the feet + a dab on chest, dab on neck and a touch on tip of nose. It will suppress cough for at least a few hrs. He won’t smell great but it works. Ditto on throat coat + tons of water and no dairy.

He is super strict about his voice there has been no dairy for days, no fried foods he has always taken care of his voice but he got this voice when they went to NYC to sing at Carneige last weekend. He is doing better but all this stuff in his throat. He has asthma and is on his breathing treatments but tries to sing and starts coughing. It just figures. Oh well this is what he will have to deal with his whole life as his voice is his instrument. Thanks will try that throat coat I have some in.

This comes to you rather late, but if you can get some oreganol, oil of oregano, 4 drops under the tongue, could help even for an early afternoon audition and of course no voice use until absolutely necessary. You can usually get it at a nutrition store. Our family swears by it. It promotes quick healing of soft tissue membranes. Quite a dose, but we believe it works quickly. Also, Thayer’s slippery elm lozenges, but not too many. Otherwise, Delsym, (forget if DM or not is best for singers) might help suppress the spasm/coughing for a bit. Break a Leg!

VoiceTeacher has had some posts on this in the past. Very knowledgeable.

search anything from CoachC too. She’s also an expert with wonderful advice to be found here. In the end… no apologies and make it work. That’s what the pros do. They will likely realize he is sick. It happens

OK, this is officially the worst day, the bottom of the barrel. D rejected at Wagner, and her classmate got in. D is inconsolable, and I feel nauseous. Can’t get worse than this, folks…oh, actually, it can.

So sorry, @EastchesterMom.
@NewYorkSon, CoachC always suggests mucinex with cough suppressent, because coughing is the worst for vocal chords.

Take him to your MD and get a prescription cough suppressant. I have been prescribed them before when I was VERY ill and could not get bed rest due to coughing. Worked wonders!!!
