Class of 2019 - Admission Decision

Just got accepted! So excited. Was deferred early action, so had kind of written Fordham off. Big decision to make.

Could someone explain where in the email I would see if my son was awarded any money? Greatly appreciated!

Wait listed. Accepting the offer. It’s still one of my top choice schools, so I will most definitely still be attending if the final offer stands. Does anyone know the chances of being accepted of the wait list? And when do they get back to us? I’m also emailing the admissions department expressing my interest and asking them if I can send my quarter grades as “support”.

Jared: I never trash talk other schools. Not my bag. However there are distinct differences in Northeastern, BC and Fordham. Binghamton is a state school and another set of factors, so I wont delve into that.

BC is a fine fine school. Highly ranked. Its Boston. Boston is a very student oriented city. Great sports in the ACC. Pretty campus. Larger than Fordham (undergrad.) So it comes down to your ideas and what turns you on, programs, location and jobs. Some kids from Boston come to Fordham to get away from Boston. A change of venue and doing the Big Apple. Northeastern is an urban campus and more like NYU. Sports are mostly ice hockey and to some extent basketball.

You really have to visit and get a feel and see if Fordham fits you and compare costs etc. Some folks are more concerned about ranking…I get that. But in the end, its what employers think and where you want to work. For undergraduate work, Fordham is a truly special place. But no school is without warts and issues. And Fordham is very diverse in many ways. My kid had an awesome experience…then went to Boston for graduate school! LOL.

All we can ask is you give Fordham a thorough looksee and visit and get a feel. YOu have until May 1 to decide. Take your time. Dont rush. Go with your gut after you visit. And we hope you pick Fordham!

Sorry for you. But they do take kids off the wait list, depending on if they are resident students or commuters. And how many kids go elsewhere. Its not a lot of people but it does happen. Tell them your reasons and see what happens. What if you delayed a semester and start in January? Sometimes that works too. Ask them.

Accepted to Rose Hill as a bio major with a Loyola scholarship and tuition award. Going to UConn

@sovereigndebt thank you. I emailed them expressing my interest and that if admitted, I would most definitely enroll. I also asked them if I can send in my 3rd quarter grades and if they know the approximate date that wait list decisions will be released? Do you know anything about when wait list is typically released? thanks.

@rscnee2 - My daughters award letter was a link at the bottom of the admission decision letter. She was accepted, but the financial aid award was disappointing. Our cost would be 20k more than our EFC, so Fordham is probably out.

Thank you so much for responding. Was this on the bottom of the letter in the application status portal or an actual letter in the mail? Im thinking maybe he was offered anything. Is that possible? Thanks again.

I got accepted in the Rose Hill Campus but am unable to check my Financial Aid, any other intentional applicants having similar problems ?

@FlaviusMaximus I don’t see anything regarding financial aid or awards. I have logged into all different places and nothing there.

The link to the financial aid award is at the bottom of the acceptance letter in the portal. If you create an account at the myfordham portal, you can select the “applicant” tab, then select financial aid, and select the “award” box at the top. The acceptance letter should contain a code that you need to register for myfordham.

@rscnee2‌ even I tried logging in everywhere, one place I saw it written that undergrad applicants are required to fill both FAFSA and CSS. I have given CSS but it is not possible to fill up the FAFSA for intl students as it requires a SSN.
Idk what I am doing wrong here

@FlaviusMaximus‌ the school was extremely helpful when my husband called today. I suggest you call them too.
Good luck!

EFCs are not a guarantee of anything but a rough estimate based on a computer algorythm. Fordham does gap people and that is disappointing to many. Taking on student loans totally like 30k over four years is not outrageous and is the national average. 30k a year in loans is too much and I would appeal the decision or go elsewhere. Do NOT take on 100k in debt for Fordham undergrad. Save your money for grad school.

Many parents and students think their 4.0 student should go for free. That just isnt reality. A very high percentage of students at Fordham are 4.0 (and 5.0 qpa). Many have HUGE SAT scores…some of them 1600. But even a perfect SAT score is for tuition scholarships and NOT room and board. Room and board in New York is high.

Tuition at Fordham has risen gradually but is now very high. Fordham has attempted to offset that with better aid. But they look at family assets including home values and equity in the home. IF the parents arent willing to contribute then that is not on Fordham.

Believe me I understand. We got gapped too. And we took out loans as did my daughter. And it was worth it, but manageable. Fordham is an AMAZING school on so many levels. Two educations in one: academic and being in NYC/street smarts. Internships.

Its a shame everyone cant get exactly what they need. Frustrating and sometimes infuriating. Believe me, I know. It is what it is. And with 42,000 applications and accepting 42% or so, and room for only about 1800 freshmen a year, do the math. Its a very tough task for the admissions/financial aid counselors.

Good luck to all. Congrats if you got in. Hope you can accept and be a Fordham Ram!
