My friend was waitlisted. One thing to remember that colleges with high-ish admissions rates (like Dickinson) do to keep their admit rate lower is they don’t admit students that they think are over-qualified and won’t go there. My friend had 4.2, 32 ACT and lots of leadership experience, and Dickinson was right, it’s not her top school and she probably will get in elsewhere. It makes sense, why waste an admission on someone that has no intention of attending? So those of you with high stats, don’t fret

@teagkni I doubt that’s true, I had the same stats as your friend and I got in with scholarship.

I think it’s definitely true about not admitting studnets that aren’t predicting to enroll. The stats mentioned are good but I wouldn’t really put them in the over qualified category. I’d say appearing overqualified to admissions would probably be more like a 35 ACT. The idea about building a class and finding students that fit the college is also something to consider. Finally financial aid should be considered. I know with my 0 EFC I should have applied early action because many colleges like Dickinson don’t have unlimited funds

I tend to disagree, many people that receive Dickinson’s premier scholarships could go anywhere they wanted to. I don’t thing there’s anything as overqualification that would make people get rejected.

@2015gef‌ I might be wrong, then. The process is extremely random and it’s impossible to predict how an admissions committee judges each individual person. I was just trying to bring hope to some of those who were waitlisted

I am just pointing out that yeild management is definitely practiced especially at liberal arts colleges. If a student has ivy level stats and shows no interest they aren’t likely to be admitted

Accepted! 1990/740/740. 4.0 UW. Exceptional ECs, multiple leadership positions. I believe I nailed the essay and supplement (but we’ll never know, will we?), and I did the interview. I’ve been offered the John Montgomery scholarship, and am in need of a large chunk of financial aid. Mid year grades dropped a bit because of those ECs, and I think that helped keep me out of Vassar and Colgate, but really excited to be accepted by Dickinson!
And for future lurkers, I was also accepted into Skidmore, but waitlisted for F &M.
