Class of 2020 EDI discussion thread

no email either. still waiting to hear about financial aid award also

@swivelneck As the parent of an athlete I’m so sorry to hear this. Would you mind sharing a little more about the communication around recruitment? My son is strongly considering Colby for ED2 but your experience is concerning. Did your son have an admissions pre-read? And did it give you any indication that he might not get in?

@bbthree My son is a recruited athlete for football. He was given a favorable pre-read and was told he had 100% support going to admissions. He was accepted yesterday ED1. We have had a great experience with the entire recruiting process at Colby and everyone was very transparent. Even with the favorable pre-read we were told they are not on the admissions committee and there were no guarantees.

financial aid info is out, check the portal.
Mine was so terrible I might not be able to go.

@alf166 @fromtheshadows @elephant123 @Cajunguy They just posted financial aid estimates to the portal!

@fromtheshadows I’m so sorry! You can always ask them to review the offer, and let them know what you think you’d need to go!

@Cajunguy Thanks, that helps! My son really likes the coach he’s met with so if he does apply ED2 I feel like the coach would be as transparent as possible…and we do understand that there are no guarantees. Congrats to your son.

@LifeIsMagical thanks, i’ll see where that path leads

@fromtheshadows No problem!

@fromtheshadows I’m really sorry to hear about that. I think you should ask them to review the offer.
@LifeIsMagical UPS actually notified me of a package from Colby. I’ll get it in 4 days.

@alf166 That’s so awesome to hear! Are you excited? How did your finals go?

He did have a preread. He was told directly he would be fine and need not worry. I just spoke with someone who used to work at Tufts and at Bowdoin in admissions, and then the guy also was some sort of NESCAC administrator. He said that Colby is notoriously unreliable compared to most NESCACS with the process. Sadly, we didn’t know this beforehand or my son would have likely picked another to do ED to since others wanted him. I am happy for those that got in with a coach’s support but my son was truly told he would get in. I was told the same over lunch. Yes, I knew that was 100% but the process is still screwed. It is just a shame that 95% of the D1 schools are academically not that great. When a D1 coach commits to you, you are in academically 100%. It will all work out eventually.

@LifeIsMagical Yup I’m kinda excited. They give me a pretty good package. I just completed my A levels last month so I get like 8 months of holiday now hahaha. How’s your financial package?

YOOO LADS, ANY INTERNATIONALS HERE?- colby freshman (pakistan)
hoping to meet yall soon

@alf166 where are you from bro?

anybody from southasia or that region, fell free to hit me up and get an insight into the place

GO COLBY

@alf166 I’m so jealous! I wish I had an eight month break! What are the A levels like? I’m assuming that you’re from the UK. The financial package I received was pretty similar to what their net-price calculator had given me, so I’m very excited. It’s a big enough package that I think I can afford to pay it with my part time job (using the 10 month payment plan, of course). I can’t imagine having eight months off!

@ali16415 I’m from Vietnam/Singapore bro.
@LifeIsMagical I’m not from the UK hahaha. I grew up in vietnam but have been studying in singapore for the last few yrs. We take the A lvls here as well. I don’t think you would want such a long break actually. It’s getting super boring already. I’ll prolly spend 8 months travelling and working.

That sounds better than high school! I can’t wait for this school year to be over!

Are you doing anything exciting for Christmas, if you celebrate it?

Are you planning on visiting Colby?
