Class of 2020: Follow My College Process

I’ve only received financial aid from La Salle about (17,000) & Eastern Nazarene (about 9,000) so far. Temple & CUA should be about $25,000, Montclair $14,000.

Montclair is my second-to-last choice. The quality of classes has gone down, they’re accepting nearly everyone since they became test-optional. I think it’s worth paying a bit more for a better school, like La Salle.

Okay, my Montclair financial aid has been posted.

After financial aid, without any loans, my net price is $13,258, with room & board. Not bad!

Go to Montclair. LaSalle will have a net cost of attendance of $40k. Temple is not going to give you $25k a year. I think Catholic will come in at about the same as LaSalle.

Any chance at honors? That would alleviate the "motivation/level of preparation " problem. Look into it. Email the Dean indicating your motivation for honors.

If I were you it’d be between Temple and Montclair. Although I wouldn’t advise you to pick Montclair just because it’s the cheapest one. Temple is far better than Montclair.

What do you mean LaSalle will cost $40,000? I received my financial aid letter, my net cost is $17,000. @OnTheBubble

I agree. I think Temple is worth the money. @LBad96

I hope Temple will come through for you.

It sounded like the financial aid amount for La Salle was 17k. Look how you phrased it. Make sure you double check that with La Salle. That school giving 40k in need based aid is very odd.

Check whether it’s the amount per annum or for all 4 years.

The total is $17,000 a year. Maybe they included Pell Grant too. @OnTheBubble @MYOS1634

54-17=37k. Unaffordable.
Even with pell grants (37 - 5) = 32
32 - 5.5 = 26.5 left to pay…

These letters can be very confusing especially when loans are included in the net. Carefully calculate the net cost of attendance without loans or Pell Grant because you get that wherever you go.

Also, did Montclair’s number already factor in all NJ grants?

^actually, net cost should include Pell (since it doesn’t have to be repaid) but not loans.
Right now, only Montclair seems to be affordable, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed for Temple.

I realize that but Pell grants don’t come from the school.

Unfortunately, I don’t think you have the stats for automatic merit awards at Temple, and I doubt they will offer much out of state need based aid besides Federal aid that you would get anywhere. I hope you will rethink Montclair. I’m not sure what you’ve heard, but I have smart friends that are very happy there. ; I think at any school you are going to find people who are motivated like you and and some who are not. Even at top schools.

Without Pell, La Salle will be $22,000, about. Yes, Montclair included NJ Grants @onthebubble

No, my TOTAL after grants and Pell will be 17,000. It shows the sticker price and it subtracts my grants, for 17,000 remaining. That’s not my scholarship amount. @MYOS1634

If La Salle gave you 35k in hard financial aid that is terrific. Take advantage of basketball that is a great conference, even though La Salle had been a little weak.

My net price from CUA is about $35,000. That’s out! :frowning:

I didn’t get into Temple. :frowning: I guess this is a sign that the extra debt wasn’t worth it!

@MYOS1634

So sorry to hear it! :frowning:

Are all your decisions in or are you still waiting for a few?
