Chance me for these schools?
I’m a senior in hs from NJ, and I have a 3.7 gpa with a 1530 sat score (not too good, i know). but i’ve taken almost all honors and ap classes and I was ranked in the top ten for my old school but i transferred this year and my rank dropped a lot…my ec’s are alright, not too much though.
Here’s the schools I’m applying to:
Rutgers(Camden/NB)
(possibly) Montclair (I’m not too sure bc I’ve seen a lot of bad reviews and it seems like they’re academics are lacking and it’s a commuter school. I don’t want to go to a commuter school. Any info on this school would be great)
Temple
Point Park (accepted)
Albright
Arcadia(visited and it was pretty but kind of small for my liking, i don’t know much about it so any info would be nice too)
Ithaca
Marymount Manhattan
Fordham(definitely a reach, but I applied anyway bc they gave me a free app)
Lesley
Loyola
Schools I’m thinking about but I’m not too sure of: College of Saint Elizabeth(VERY affordable, I put my info in the npc and i got a 2k net price but the school is kinda small so idk) Fairleigh Dickinson, The New School, Rowan, Stockton, Monmouth. (I used to be into tcnj and ramapo but they’re too secluded and I need to be near a city. Preferably NYC since I’ve been next to philly my whole life) NJCU (can barely find any info on this school), and i might apply to my community college bc money is tight and some schools are too expensive so just in case…
Sorry this is so long but any help would be appreciated!! Whether it’s campus life, an opinion, chance me, etc.
Why not try Rutgers-New Brunswick too, if you’re going for Camden?
Albright is a nice small college. I have some friends who teach there and there is a lot of room for creativity. You get both a small city (Reading) and access to outdoor recreation.
Is there time to take the ACT? You may do better with a different format of standardized test.
@mamaedefamilia I applied to Rutgers-NB campus too. I applied to Camden bc they have this new thing where if your family makes less than 60k you get free tuition. However, New Brunswick is pretty affordable too and huge which I think I would like. It’s proximity to NYC is perfect too. & thanks for the info on albright! I did take the act but didn’t do well either i got a 19…
You should apply to some colleges known for taking students with a “problem” in their application but great academic strengths otherwise, and offering the best outcomes. These are known as “A+ colleges for B students”. “Colleges that change lives” would also be excellent picks.
Those colleges include Elizabethtown, Lycoming, Lebanon Valley, Juniata (there are tons of them in PA beside Albright and Arcadia), Lemoyne.
You can also apply to test optional colleges!
These would judge you on curriculum rigor and grades. For instance: Hobart&William Smith, St Lawrence, Ursinus, Earlham (<- very supportive), Susquehanna (-< super friendly and supportive too), Guilford (in the south and in a city)…
Why not Rutgers-Newark? Kean? Better alternatives than NJCU.
If TCNJ and Ramapo are too secluded, why Ithaca? I like Ithaca, but it’s the mountains more than the city. Far from NYC. Arcadia is small and expensive. On a map, it’s just outside Philly, but it’s remote from the city life.
Yeah I decided on not applying to njcu anymore. I like ithaca for the academic program I’m going for and i really like the atmosphere there. I know it’s wayyy farther away from nyc but i feel like i would like it there. I applied to arcadia and got in, but it’s not one of my top choices for that reason. Kean seems to accept everyone and be a commuter school and i already applied to 2 rutgers campuses. Thanks anyway!
