I thought first round was earlier (i.e., NMSC sends out first round on March 1, so first deadline would be prior to March 1.) Maybe March 31 is second round deadline?
Maybe you are right! We might have received wrong information. If it’s March 1st then we are in big trouble! I’m going to have to look this up and talk to dd tonight. Some of the schools might not respond before April 1.
If I understand it correctly, she doesn’t have to make any decision at this point unless one of her top choices insists on being listed by March 1st. Your daughter can stick to undecided for a while. Most of the schools have May 1st (entering by April 30) as a cutoff deadline.
The NM paperwork for Semifinalists states that May 31 is the final deadline for NMSC to receive reports of college choice for identifying the final group of candidates for college sponsored Merit Scholarship awards.
Our S20 also - I bet our boys tested together last month! We are still evaluating all options but very interested. Going back to UTD for another visit tomorrow (local).
Son got a letter from UTD today encouraging him to apply and touting their NMF scholarships. I didn’t realize some schools accepted applications this late into the year.
Sorry if this is a silly question, but what kind of test does UTD give for CS? Asking for my D21 likely NMSF who will major in CS or engineering and we are starting to compile info for her.

To get accepted to CS^2, D21 would have to take a proctored test (she can take it locally and doesn’t have to travel to UTD for that). I believe discrete math / logical thinking / problem solving is probably the best way to describe the test. No coding is required or expected.
There are no requirements for regular CS besides a placement test if desired (not needed with AP credit)

Thank you! Sounds like something my D21 would be interested in! I hadnt come across the CS^2 program. More to research…
@BtownJA FYI—it goes up more than $10k at UK. We are out of state for UK, but looked into it as a family alma mater and knew NMF was decent there. The initial offering (my girl received the highest out of state offer in first round apps before they look at the more competitive merits that they don’t announce until March 1 at the latest—so maybe those are in the portal now, as she hasn’t looked in a bit) gets replaced with full tuition (in state or out of state—whichever you are) plus $10k housing stipend for one year for NMF. HOWEVER, some of the NMF end up receiving other competitive scholarships for which they were being considered before NMF are named. One of those happens to be full tuition plus TWO years $10k housing stipend. If they are awarded that scholarship, it overrides even the NMF award since it is a higher award with the second year of housing added in.

Are a lot of your kids going to colleges that offer a full ride as result of national merit finalist status?
Not here. The big ones are all 18-28 hour drives from home, so she isn’t interested; however, all of the private schools that she is considering for their academic reputation will increase her current merit offerings by $5k-$30k+per year, so still a delta of $20k-over $120k over a four year stay.
