Class of 2020 National Merit Discussion

I see the letter in the mail today!!! Dallas TX area! Those who already received the letter, what does it say?

It’s in mail for us today as well here in Plano, TX (Dallas area).

Letter in informed delivery in Austin! DD doesn’t have school today so we’re just sitting around waiting for the mail carrier.

I woke her up playing “Please Mr. Postman” on my phone. She didn’t really appreciate that.

Letter from NMSC in informed delivery today in SoCal! D won’t be home until this evening but I sent her a screenshot so she doesn’t have to be on pins and needles all day. ?

I am in the DFW area also. I honestly find it maddening that our school in particular doesn’t share that information when they get it with students when others do. We have horrible mail service where I live despite being in a bustling suburb, and who knows when or if the letter will arrive. I see it in informed delivery but that means nothing. It’s just as likely to end up in someone else’s box as did some of our college admission letters. ?

I agree about athletics vs. academics. Our kids are recognized but it’s usually almost an afterthought at our school. The district does a decent job overall but athletics in this area is undoubtedly king!

We are also out of school today and Monday. Nothing like kids sitting at home staring at the mailbox when the schools know and chose not to share. Ours went as far as to tell the kids they aren’t allowed to share the info per NMSC rules.

we are in dfw too. saw it in informed delivery this morning. yay!

sounds like you live where i live. flower mound?

Wait, what? Is that true? Doesn’t the school get the certificate that belongs to the recipient? That’s just crazy.

At least I found out the reason D’s school hasn’t told her is that they apparently only pick up their mail once per week. Hopefully they will pick up today. ?

From Phoenix: son texted a photo of his certificate given by his principal this morning! Yay! No letter in the mail yet.

@AeroEngMom. Same here for the USPS delivery. I can only hope that it will be delivered to us, not our neighbors.

CC needs to add an OMG emoji option next to agree, like and helpful.

What school or business only picks up mail once a week? And why isn’t it delivered to the school directly?

For what it is worth, we haven’t heard anything from our HS either. We have over a dozen NMF so I think they save the certificates for the awards ceremony at the end of the year. Either way, they could have at least said “congratulations.”

Are they sending out only acceptances?

@98677zoe Yes, that is what is coming in the mail now. The correspondence about kids not moving on was mailed a couple of weeks ago

We received the letter at home yesterday then I went to school this morning to look for the certificate. I was told that the certs were arrived a few days ago to school then were distributed to each counselor’s office then were put in students’ homeroom folders in each dean’s office, ready to be distributed to students in the next homeroom day which is after the school vacation week (there is no homeroom day this week for my DD). So students have homeroom day this week may have already got them. I picked up my DD’s cert and saw many other certs were still in the same homeroom folder. It’s a big school. There are dozens certs still unclaimed in different homeroom folders at different buildings . They can be either self pickup (if you know where they are) or wait till next homeroom day for each student.

Letter arrived today in SoCal. And it was in our informed delivery this morning.

D20 finally got her certificate from the GC today. Woohoo!

Got my letter in the mail in Virginia!!! Excited to be a finalist but confused why I’ve heard nothing from the school

Letter was in Informed Delivery and did receive today, in MA. Friend of a friend also got theirs in MA, different town.

Daughter received her letter today (Columbus, OH)!
