My daughter checked the National Merit site and saw that she was awarded the $2500 National Merit Scholars award but she never received anything in the mail. Has anyone else got the mailing?
My daughter has not received a mailing, but we do not know yet if she received the Scholars award. Is the information readily visible when someone checks their National Merit portal?
@OH2020MOM Yes and she will need to accept it before april 8th so your daughter needs to log in and see if she has an award.
Anyone who got an award should have gotten an email, correct?
My son was awarded the $2,500. We didn’t receive anything in the mail, but he got an e-mail last Friday. Is it possible it ended in your daughter’s spam folder?
@mathkids Thank you for your reply. I think my daughter did get an email. I thought she said in the email that there was something about a mailing coming by postal service also but she never got it.
It actually came last Thursday not Friday (it’s so hard to keep track of days now). Here is the text of the e-mail. It doesn’t sound like they were sending anything in mail, though I admit I expected them to do so. I could see why the didn’t. Less mail being sent these days, better for the mail carriers.
My daughter did not see an email. Trying to double check on the portal though, is there anything to indicate she DID NOT get it?
@MamaFx3 If she logs into her portal at osa.nationalmerit.org there will be a message indicating that she received an award (if she did) and indicating she needs to accept it by April 8. I think if she doesn’t have this message it means she didn’t get it. Good luck!
So if we heard no news, we are to assume we didnt get the 2,500?
Does anyone know when you are allowed to tell others you are a NMS? From my understanding, once you accept the college’s award you become a NMS. Dd has accepted UCF and enrolled. Most of her friends are announcing to the Hs where they are going and their awards. We haven’t because I am not sure the rules surrounding it. Can DD announce she has accepted the offer, or does she have to wait until May? Thank you!
@2tiredmomma—the letter to corporate scholars said press release would be April 22, but I think it had a later date for school sponsored ones, though I am unsure of that. It said high school principal and school of first choice would be notified, but other than that, no one should be told other than immediate family until 4/22. It did say if you were contacted by newspaper, that you could speak if there was an agreement of no publishing until 4/22, at which time the press release would have gone out.

@2tiredmomma
She can tell anyone! There are NO rules regarding announcing acceptances and NM college sponsored scholarships.
Congrats!!
Perfect!! Thank you so much, menloparkmom!!!
Does anyone happen to know what Fordham’s specific college sponsored national merit scholarship is? It is not the full tuition award, because that is for semifinalists and I just got off the phone with NMSC confirming that is not Fordham’s college sponsored award. NMSC also confirmed Fordham is, in fact, a college sponsor, but didn’t have any information on what Fordham’s sponsored award is. They advised me to call Fordham directly. I’ve been on hold for the past 20 minutes with Fordham, so I thought in the meantime, I’d ask if anyone here happens to know?
@amsunshine Is your daughter still looking at schools? I thought she decided on FSU.
We were pretty certain she had decided on FSU, but then Fordham came back to us with a partial room award, and she may be getting notification of an additional outside scholarship soon, so we are back to examining the minutiae of Fordham’s cost of attendance.
Hello. Just need some help as with all this COVID there is not much help from the GC. Son logged into NMF (osa) account. Nothing on there - so I assume that means he did not get anything. Does this mean nothing from Corporation (we applied due to my employee being a sponsor) AND we did not get anything from NM either? If this is the case, do we need to select his school now to hopefully get some type of extra funding from them? I really need some guidance if anyone has done this before. Thank you so much!
@amsunshine , my daughter got the full tuition award from fordham. What other info are you looking for? Maybe i can help. You can message me.

@Johnsonmama
If any of the colleges where he was accepted offers NM scholarships that make it affordable for him to attend, then yes, its time for him to decide where he is going to go to college. He then needs to designate that college as his "first choice with NMSF, as well as accept his offer of admission in order to receive the NM scholarship that the college offers.
