Class of 2020 (sharing, venting, etc)

I filled out that form for Montclair with the letter of intent along with the other supplementary items. I wrote mine on how I started doing theatre and then talked about two different productions that were meaningful in my theatre experience. Ended by talking about why I want to major in Musical Theatre and my goals.

Over winter break I had to finish several additional essays. Roosevelt, Montclair, UWSP, Cinnicati, and Augsburg College all required a special essay besides the Common Application prompt essay I had to write. It was quite overwhelming and all the schools ask for a slightly different essay topic. Along with all this me, and any other student is writing papers for school work.

Thanks @parchuteBoy - that sounds like a good outline!

I posted this in the prescreen thread too but want to make sure I’m reading the website right: University of Miami only requires prescreens for international students and it’s optional for US students?

Yes, my son is scheduled to audition for Miami at the NYC Unifieds and he did not submit a prescreen.

Is anyone else still waiting to hear from PennState? D submitted November 11th.

@rocsocks , S still waiting to hear from Penn State…he applied in September and auditioned December 5 - was told at Q&A that y/n/defer letters would go out in 2 weeks, but we’ve not yet received a letter

Hi, my daughter and I were at the PSU Dec. 5 audition too and still have not received a letter or anything yet.

So I’m feeling under the weather and I have my BoCo audition this weekend…I have been on vocal rest for a couple days and my voice is recovering VERY slowly. all of their audition slots appear to be filled so should I just go and try my best or email them and see if they can accommodate me into one of their filled audition dates (would they do that?)?

I assume everyone is checking their Penn State web page?

@musicalkid98, 3 years ago my D was diagnosed with pneumonia 3 days before her BoCo audition. She had no voice. None. I called for her (b/c she couldn’t speak, and we thought a phone call was better). They had NO slots left, but they snuck her in 2 weeks later. They were SO nice and accommodating. I would absolutely call if you are feeling sick. These schools almost all have no-shows. And they know kids get sick, particularly in the winter. The BoCo audition was SO much fun…feel better and enjoy!

@musicalkid98 Feel better!! My D has an audition for JMU, her number one choice next weekend and she also is starting to get very stuffy and raspy voiced. We have a week so have her on Emergen-C, zicam, and fresh juices I make at home. This NY weather of cold and warm back and forth isnt helping everyone. Praying it works out for you!

I’m hoping everything will be ok for my kid. She has three auditions to go to in two weeks. I’m feeling like I’m coming down with something so I’m hoping it doesn’t transfer to her! That would suck!

anyone know what the criteria for the MT schools is to be listed at the top of the page? or how they get on there? Just wondering…would probably help a couple of the programs that are not listed, but have great MT programs get some exposure…

The programs at the top were pinned up there a year or two ago based on how often there were threads made about that particular school. All it takes is one or two big supporters of a school to get it talked about. I agree there are definitely worthwhile schools not on the list, this is simply because there aren’t enough threads made about them, not that the quality is anything less than the ones above.

@musicalkid98 In all my dealings with BoCo (my daughter did their summer program and has since spent time there on an arranged visit) the admissions office has been super nice. I would talk to them about your situation, especially as their dance audition is fun but pretty strenuous and is a solid hour or more of fast-paced dance so you want to be healthy for it if possible.

Really, @ParachuteBoy? I’ve been around here a long time and don’t recall them being talked about in that order at ALL.

Those schools have been pinned up there for longer than a year or two…at least 4 years and probably longer. I miss the good old days when there were little green dots by the schools when a new post had been added. @soozievt can probably tell us…she has been consistently active on this board for longer than any of us, I think…

That’s what is normally said from an admin on these forums when the questions asked. It’s not necessarily true, and I could be mistaken though. The school specific forums are very unused unfortunately now anyway so there isn’t much of an advantage to having a school on the top section other than visibility.

@Calliene - they are in loosely alphabetical order… (Loose meaning they disregard things like “university of…”)

The individual school forums have been set up for several years and were chosen, initially, by the frequency of threads about those particular schools. The reason that not every school was listed was due to a number limit on the forum setup. In the infamous changes to CC a couple of years ago, the green dots disappeared and, as a result, the school forums are terribly, and unfortunately, underused.
