@theaterwork @boatmom Rider posts acceptances on the portal! Log-in to your personal site and check! I remember that we had to drill down a bit to find it…fingers crossed for everyone.
No, it just says “Under Review.” And the letter says that decisions won’t be announced til late February.
@allthatjazz12345 You are barely below the minimum cutoff that Michigan advertises for the school of music theatre dance (3.0 GPA; 24 ACT). I’d view it as a positive that they are “scrutinizing” your academics rather than tossing you out…if they really want you, I suspect you’ll get in!
So many non-MT kids already know where they are going, its so hard to not even know MT acceptances yet! My D just keeps saying to anyone who asks, I’ll know by May 1st!! But she said its hard when everyone asks.
^^Yes I remember it was most frustrating to be asked at church every single week “so where is she going to school?” Same people, every week, no matter that I had given the May1st date in the weeks preceding…
My d has had scholarship applications due and they ask for school decisions and finances…but, yeah, no definite decision yet, because basically it all depends on financial aid at this point. She waiting for news of FA from one particular school and if they come through for her, then her decision is made. At least at this point, she knows she has acceptances several BFA programs she really likes, so that stress is off. But she’s dying to know if she can afford her dream school.
@boatmom Keep checking the portal. Last year our daughter was accepted and we would never have known if someone hadn’t posted on CC that their child had gotten in and that it was posted on the portal. We ran to the computer immediately and boom - there it was! Who knows how long it was up there!!??
@songgirlsmom Similar situation here. Scholarships wont come in for a few schools till Mid-late March!! She only hasone school that we know everything, academic acceptance, MT acceptance and scholarships! Wish they all did it that way!
anyone who auditioned for Royal Conservatoire Scotland or Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama hear anything yet?
Heard Michigan took a girl? Anyone hear the same?
Literally only one of our friends has heard anything from any schools…just Rider & that’s it and we did confirm it was a MT acceptance for a boy. Plus we had that one friend who heard yes from Ohio northern . But that was a thespian festival offer.
@Joyfulmama and @songgirlsmom - same…he has one school with the academic and BFA MT acceptance and generous merit scholarship. Supposedly he may get a small talent award, which makes it all very tempting. He still has 4 more auditions to go, too. The waiting is hard! He’d love another offer or two or six, but I keep saying, all you need is one. And it was on your list!
@boatmom That is basically a waitlist/pool of applicants being considered letter you got from Rider. My D got one last year. I became a serial portal checker! I recall it was pretty late in the game when her status finally changed. Ultimately it was a no, this part of the process can really make you crazy! I think my mailman thought I was stalking him through the month of March! Congrats for the Waitlist! Anything that is not a no is pretty awesome!
@boatmom, I recall my D getting that letter from Rider last year after her audition. I think it was similar to a “priority hold” or “deferred”, meaning your S is still in the running after auditions. Last year they emailed and posted final decisions on the portal in early March.
Hi!! I have a question about the Penn State audition. They ask for 2 songs “approximately 45 seconds long”. How strict are they with this time? My daughter has been meeting with a very talented accompanist to prepare, and he’s recommending different starting points to make it less awkward for the pianist provided at the audition. So, her songs are now longer - both under a minute, though. She wanted to sing the end of both songs because those were the parts to really highlight her strengths. From what I’ve been seeing on CC, the pianists provided are not always the best at sight reading - I’m sure they would be able to play brilliantly with practice, but unfortunately, that is not the case. Thanks in advance for your help!!
I can’t speak to Penn State specifically (though my kid was accepted there in her year), I think it is best to adhere closely to the requirements. I would pick a section that is very close to 45 seconds long.
In terms of accompanists at auditions, most can sight read well because it is a requirement of the position. My own kid has been an accompanist at auditions and in BFA vocal classes and is an excellent sight reader. I think you will find most of the pianists at auditions to have that skill. If it is particularly tricky music to play, that’s another thing. (example, my D would say that regarding Adam Guettel).
@224kimbo, Penn State was VERY particular about having their instructions followed in my D’s year. VERY. They cut people off and with one girl, got visibly angry (they told her not following their instructions was a huge problem for them…she came out of the room crying). I think it is best to follow each school’s limits as closely as possible. In such a high stakes, competitive endeavor, why deliberately give yourself additional obstacles? If they say 45 seconds, give them 45 seconds or slightly under.
@monkey13 TOTALLY agree with your assessment!
I know several kids who have received offers to Rider but many receive that letter and find out later. Admits can still come. It is sort of a deferral.
My D brought JRB, he had a little trouble with it. FYI - It was 51 seconds, they didn’t cut her off. BAL
