Class of 2021 (sharing, venting, etc)

I had called Texas Tech last week and was told letters would go out in the mail Monday at the latest. We still haven’t gotten a letter, but my D got an email this afternoon (with a letter attached dated 4/3) saying she’s an alternate…
Just when I thought we were nearing a decision. We’ve never even been to campus! Uggh.

@milmom2 I agree, completely. There are so, so many less talked about/less shiny programs.

Thanks so much to you all! That’s all very helpful advice and it’s great to hear a variety of experiences. Best of luck to all of you in making a decision!

@mmm333 We haven’t received anything from Texas Tech either, but we emailed them last week and were told that my D was also an alternate.

I agree 100% @milmom2. I don’t believe everyone lands where they should. Instead, I think there are many fine programs out there and many fine students who are driven to get the most out of the opportunities presented, no matter where they land.

Just curious if anyone else is going to Western Carolina for BFA Musical Theater? Trying to find my classmates

Updated sticker shock thread. Can others with information update for additional schools with 2017-18 listed in parenthesis? I think it is really helpful this time of year to see where schools fit in the economics of the decision.

Anyone have experience with video auditions for Belmont? I submitted one recently. Waiting to hear back

Spring Chamber Choir concert tonight…beautifully bittersweet senior recognitions.

It’s looking likely that S will be committing to Roosevelt. He really took the bull by the horns and found himself a very hard but lucrative summer job. It means moving away from home right after graduation but he said he’d do whatever it takes. I’ve never seen this kid as motivated as he is right. It’s good to see - gives me hope!

@momof3nerdz we’re heading into that phase as well. Last show and last choir concert a week apart.

@theotherparent it’s looking like my S will commit to Roosevelt too. He is MT Voice Emphasis. What about your S?

@theatremom10 MT Voice also

@theotherparent I wonder if they know each other. Is he in the group chat via Facebook?

@theatremom10 I’d assume not. He doesn’t have facebook.

So my daughter joined The Company Facebook group for theater majors and the Facebook groups for the three colleges she’s considering.

She started seeing A LOT of people saying they were accepted at LIU Post for MT and a few Acting. She counted and came up with 38 girls and 16 guys.Compared the other two programs she’s considering, those numbers are double what she’s seen. And those are just the ones who posted on FB. She’s assuming there are other acceptances beside these. She is worried about potential class size. We had heard that LIU was going to be alot more selective this year to establish a lower acceptance rate.

@winnieroot , your daughter attends LIU right? What do you think?

Maybe those kids are making it up? Just to join groups and chat? I wouldn’t be surprised. Don’t get me wrong…I love that they are on that page but anyone can do or say anything on the interweb! LOL Or maybe the class size IS going to be larger than some other schools. Hope you get some answers!

They always accept more than will attend…are these students who have committed?

^As bisouu said many schools over offer to get their yield as they know many kids will have a few options. You can always ask the school what they are shooting for in terms of class size. Pretty sure that a good portion of those students have been accepted but will not be attending.

Try to remember that most kids who are accepted at a school are accepted at other schools as well. They can only attend ONE. These FB groups are for “accepted” students, yes? It would be different if they were for students who are enrolled to attend this fall. Most programs accept more students than slots available in the class.

That all makes sense. I guess with hundreds (or maybe thousands?) of students auditioning across the country, with a limited number of programs & slots to fill, there’s going to be overlap in acceptances. The numbers must all work out in the end.
