owensfolks best wishes to your daughter. Can’t wait to hear about your experience next week.
I think it is different with every kid. The most important is for you to keep your cool. I found the less I said the better. I helped when needed (not always easy to figure that one out!) and tried to stay out of they way. I have to say, we had a great time bonding while traveling and meeting other kids and families. Most off all. I followed her lead. I know this is kind of vague, but it really worked for us. Best of luck.
@MTNY2112 - the best advice that I can give is that this process is a marathon, not a sprint. There are hectic periods, and periods where nothing seems to be happening. I always felt that it was my job to be calm and supportive for my D, when she was doubtful, I needed to help remind her of the positives, and I needed to keep my own fears/stresses (which were EXTREME) to myself.
@owensfolks we had Elon (acting) 2 weeks ago and Emerson MT next weekend. So we are in the thick of it for sure.My daughter woke up with a nice big cold today ( we are doing all the stuff- raw honey, tea etc). Best of luck to your daughter!! I hope to meet some of you along the way this year.
@owensfolks how was the audition?
@mommafaria first one is tomorrow (Saturday.) I will let you know!
@laylamom get her some zinc lozenges like Zicam ASAP. You might still be able to knock that cold out if she starts zinc tomorrow! Just make sure she eats something first so it doesn’t make her nauseated. Better than any tea or vitamins or anything else. Break a leg at Emerson!
@NJNYvt Thank you for the awesome advice! I am on it with the zinc as per your recommendation. It seems to be but a small cold and I think we’ll be OK. Thanks for the good wishes annnnnnd we’re are off to see the wizard… :x
Can’t wait to hear from all of you regarding auditions this weekend. How did they go?
question… my daughter finally finished filming and editing her prescreen videos and we uploaded all except one- Otterbein. She sat down tonight to upload that one, and the instructions say “monologue MUST be Shakespeare”. I am guessing that is a new change for this program, because this summer I printed out the requirements for each program and we started creating a binder to stay organized- the guidelines stated that the monolgue needed to be from a published play, which we filmed TWO pieces, both from plays. Neither are Shakespeare. We both are feeling frustrated- that feeling of being almost finished and then having a curve ball thrown at you. She is in the midst of tech week for her school show, and seriously NOT feeling equipped to choose a Shakespeare piece, learn it rehearse it, film it etc. What are your thoughts on this- do we A) upload the monologue we have and see what happens B) scrap Otterbein from our list? Those might be our only options because at this point my daughter doesn’t think she has time to do this anytime soon… (it was almost the straw that broke the camels back after a VERY DEMANDING week of late night rehearsals and tons of homework/ school projetcs. It’s disappointing because she visited Otterbein and realy liked what she saw. Any parental advice out there? She has 15 schools on her list and for MT - Otterbein was the only one that required Shakespeare!
@MTmomSF tagging you here since I remember you said you guys passed the Otterbein prescreen already, right? Any advice for my above question? Did you prepare Shakespeare for other schools as well or just Otterbein?
@savedrama4momma the short answer is yes, he did pass prescreen for Otterbein with Shakespeare and CMU, it wasn’t pretty. I will PM you details.
Folks, if anyone has any questions about Molloy College/CAP 21, please ask, or check out my thread at BFA at Molloy College/CAP 21… my D is a senior. Break legs to all in the Class of 2022!
@EastchesterMom - oh my gosh! A senior already. Seems like just yesterday I was following you and her story here and just rooting for her so much. How very exciting for her to be part of the inaugural graduating class!
Thanks so much, @sopranomtmom! I can’t believe it myself. Class One’s mainstage was this past weekend, and now that it’s done, it’s finally hitting the kids that the finish line is fast approaching! For all of you about to embark with your kids on this arduous journey we call audition season, have courage, keep smiling, and above all, keep the faith - it WILL happen, and your kids will wind up where they were meant to be. My D is living proof.
Hi. I am very new to all of this and love reading about all of the other kids on this journey. Question: anyone had an early offer where they ask you to commit in February? We were so excited to start the year off with a yes thinking we could breathe for audition season. Not sure that my d will be ready to commit that early but a bird in the hand… Any past experience or suggestions would be appreciated.
My D had some early offers but nobody said she had to commit in feb. One school kept asking if she was still interested. She was honest and said yes but that she also needed to wait to see where she got in, financial packages, etc.
My guess is this school wants to know in feb so they are able to open a spot up if your D turns them down. If they know she is commiting they won’t look for anyone else to fill that spot.
If this is part of an early application process it may be required, but otherwise I don’t believe any school can make a student commit prior to May 1.
Thanks. Any suggestions on how to handle it? Leave it alone for now and ask for more time later or say something up front?
If you get an offer I’m sure you could commit but a lot of the schools don’t give their offers till later. The greater likelihood is you’ll be revisiting schools in late March early April to make your May 1 decision.
This issue comes up every year. There are rules about this that the colleges are obligated to follow - I can’t cite to the rule, but I bet there are long-time CCers out there who can. The bottom line is that no college can compel a commitment before the May 1 deadline. I wouldn’t confront the school now… you’ve got a way to go before February.
