@Neuroticdad, the Syracuse scheduling person is very nice! You should definitely call to get on the waitlist. I called when our flight got changed (from night to mid-afternoon!), so my D is on the waitlist to change from the afternoon to morning. She is Acting, but the person I spoke with had both MT and Acting schedules.
Has anyone heard from Ithaca? My D’s Portal says “awaiting audition results”. But I don’t know if that indicates a decision on pre-screens. (I called them but of course it’s saturday and they’re closed.). Wondering if anyone received any kind of email saying specifically about passing the pre-screen…?
Any Early Action Nov audition Emerson folks out there - check your portal! My D was deferred - they will consider here with all the other applications, etc. At least its not a no
.
D was accepted into NYU Tisch - New Studio on Broadway for Musical Theatre
Still trying to absorb it all, will be accepting and declining other offers and withdraw other applications .
Congrats @TX1_MTbound! Merry Christmas!
Wow, congratulations on all of the acceptances so early in the process! I have been through the MT college audition process with D2 three years ago and will be doing it again with D3 in a couple of years. I am curious…there seems to be a lot of MT decisions going out early this year from colleges that didn’t typically make early offers in the past. Is this a new trend, or did we just not hear much about them in the past? I know with NYU you have to commit if you are offered an ED spot, is this the case with any of the others?
D did do ED1 at NYU . However other offers were not early commit . We have been planning for this process for years and in speaking with other parents we know we decided to split auditions in Fall and Spring. Also, if we didn’t get any callbacks we would know that was an indication early on to revisit audition material. D worked on college application material and essays during the summer and was ready to submit in Common App when it opened . Also she finished her prescreens by Oct 1 that way she could focus on being prepared for live auditions. She applied to 11 schools and 7 were top 10. We also decided early on instead of using a coach we would use the money to travel Onsite to her top 5 schools. Unfortunately she was sick for 3 weeks so had to reschedule BW and Cincinnati but at the end it paid off because NYU was her 1st choice. Other offers were from North Texas auditions (similar to unifieds on a smaller scale) . She received 27 callbacks and multiple direct offers . If anyone has similarly local auditions I would recommend prior to unifieds to get experience .
One of the things I learned here on CC is that BW does not use the pre-screen process and we needed to get all of the college applications in early. My S submitted everything by October 6 and had two auditions in November. The first audition was not his best, nor was it one of his top 3 schools. The audition at BW went VERY WELL and he got an offer in December from them. He is still auditioning at some schools, but it’s very refreshing to know that he will be attending a school that he loves for musical theater. To all those out there planning for next year, make sure you get your prescreens and college applications in early.
@mommafaria I completely second that ! D had admission to Oklahoma City University MT before NYU decision and it really reduced pressure to know she had been accepted to one of her top schools already. Also, if you can do it financially I would go Onsite for at least your child’s top schools if possibly vs unifieds (I understand some require pre screens ). This is advice that a parent gave me from her experience w her S and I’m glad we took it .
On the other side of the coin, my D is at a school oft mentioned on this board that she auditioned for at NY Unifieds.
My daughter got much done early. It was not easy. She pushed herself really hard from the end of summer and into the fall but It has really paid off. She wants an acting BFA but did one MT audition at Emerson because she loved their summer program and faculty and that’s where they wanted her to be. It’s been an extreme boost to her confidence. She is at a High School with very little to offer serious students of the performing arts so we have used MTCA. They have been so generous and they just GET her. Especially love her acting coach/teacher. So far she has done 3 early action. BW, Elon- acting and Emerson MT and was accepted to all three. Generous merit based aid just came in yesterday from BW, we have yet to hear from the others.
I really do believe this may be the beginning of a trend. The early acceptances. We did not expect such results at all and had talked at length about the very real possibilities of not getting any yes’s. It is a wonderful shock. Going forward she is only agreeing to drop safeties and I wish she would let go of more. I know there will be many "no’s ahead as she hits some of the crazy hard odds schools but I am so happy we were on the early side of things. For us it is making the year much more manageable (which is all I was hoping for). Even down right sweet!
Congrats on all the early admits! It is definitely a nice way to get this process rolling. But I just want to jump in and reassure any parents or students reading this who aren’t on the early train not to feel discouraged or worried. We were not able to do any early auditions last year due to my daughter’s schedule and I remember always feeling behind and a little disheartened by the joyous early admit news here. Sure, I was happy for the kids getting great news, but I couldn’t help but feel that somehow my daughter was going to be at a disadvantage because of our later start. That was not the case. She didn’t go into Unifieds with any artistic admits - but they came and they were great and she had choices and she is a happy freshman at Hartt. So it’s OK if you aren’t in the early admission pool - your time will come. And for those with the early admits - Celebrate!! It’s awesome!
@sopranomtmom thanks for such an encouraging comment!!! That felt like a “hug” so nice. We will def be messaging you about Hartt if my D ends up getting an acceptance there after Unifieds! It’s a school we have heard great things about but probably the one program we know the least about really and have not visited the campus or talked to any MT students there so we will need to do some research if it ends up being an option!!! Thanks again for the reassurance! Our auditions are all mostly Jan/ Feb.
Thank you @sopranomtmom I was actually starting to get worried since my daughter’s first real auditions start after January 1st. Some of the schools she is auditioning for only have Jan/Feb dates but we didn’t do any early ones because D couldn’t get her act together and get the apps submitted any sooner. I have been thinking she missed the boat and all spots will be full by the time she has her chance. Nice to know that isn’t the case.
Hey @collegemom2000 and @savedrama4momma -@sopranomom is is so so right. I did not mean to cause that kind of feeling at all. I am positive that it isn’t about “when”. There are so many factors and one has to find their own rhythm. I think that by wondering if slightly more EA might be being accepted (if they are) or if it is “becoming a trend” I am sort of musing on the ever shifting nature of these programs dealing with the ever increasing influx of qualified wonderful young talent. I think because people are researching and preparing for it sometimes quite early schools might be seeing more well prepared kids than in prior years in the early months. I don’ think it changes anyones trajectory. Really though…I have no idea. I’m a single Mom and a little neurotic. Hardly anybody does this where we live and I don’t have that many people to tell. No one here in our dreary town realizes that this is an achievement. I don’t believe that any one on this board, mapping out their own personalized complicated year is behind at all! I’m sorry if my post contributed to or triggered that feeling. I’m a worrier and was not sure we’d even get one yes. Also my D did not pass Ithaca pre-screen or Depaul- yet these other programs SAW her. Still, I always wait for the other shoe to drop and I’m sure there will be many shoes. We are all sailing the same bumpy sea’s. Courageously!
Folks, we were less than clueless when my D ran this gauntlet in 2013-2014. She did get her apps in early and we auditioned from November to March. D was the poster girl for rejection and dejection. It was a nightmare. Well, we all know how it worked out beautifully in the end. It will for your kiddos, too. They will wind up where they’re meant to be - the MT gods have spoken!
D did some early auditions this year, but no EA schools so she will really end up having the same long audition season as @EastchesterMom D. Her first was November 4 and her last is March 3. A number of her friends won’t start auditioning until Chicago Unifieds so will have a relatively short audition season.
When your kid’s guidance department has lost three transcript release authorization forms…and you’ve been wondering why you haven’t heard from those schools yet…ugh…they don’t have the transcripts yet! :((
