Hello! We are thrilled that our daughter has been accepted into the class of 2023 at Tufts! Her plan is to major in either Electrical and Computer Engineering or Mechanical. I’ve looked back on CC and see that, in previous years, there was a parent-student discussion thread that contained a lot of useful information for incoming freshmen and their parents. I am starting this thread for the same purpose.
@Mastadon Thank you for providing so much helpful information about Tufts! We will be attending Jumbo Days on 4/19 and welcome any advice about the area, the school, etc.
From our visit to campus last summer and what I have read about Tufts, I think our daughter and Tufts would be a perfect fit. She is considering her other options, including scholarships, etc., and will be making her decision after our Jumbo Days visit.
My daughter too has been accepted into the class of 2023. Her mom and many family members have attended in the past. We are hoping to attend Jumbo days, but may be unable due to high school and family commitments. We too have to consider offers from institutions for fit and affordability. Still, she would love to attend Tufts as it has so much to offer.
My son was accepted too. This is his first choice school. Unfortunately, he received zero financial aid. We thought he would get at least something. He received really great scholarships at several other institutions. Now the decision making begins. Do we let him enroll in Tufts by taking out loans, or send him elsewhere and stay free and clear from debt? Some say his undergraduate degree is way less important than where he goes for his graduate degree. But still, it really bothers me that he has this opportunity for such a great experience at Tufts but may not be able to avail of it because of finances. I’m sure a lot of other families are in the same boat. I wonder what your thought process has been on this (debt vs. no debt)?
We are as well. 75k a year seems ridiculous to me.
We were initially very excited that my daughter had been accepted to Tufts, but found the financial aid offer underwhelming. I wrote to their financial aid department and received a nice but firm no when I asked for additional aid.
My daughter has three other acceptances which we consider affordable and do not require any student loans. We wanted to try to have her go to college without any debt.
We are looking forward to our visit to Tufts next week! If anyone has any hotel or restaurant recommendations, please let me know (I’ve booked a hotel but can cancel until the night before if I find something closer).
We live in a climate that is warm (hot and humid, really) year-round. The weather in Boston in the winter will be a big change for our daughter, but she is very excited about it. She’s young and resilient like all 18 year-old kids!
Any tips for our visit are appreciated!
@lemon drop @lmccarth @RaleighNCdad Are you and your kids still considering Tufts?
