Did anyone apply/ is planning to apply to Johns Hopkins?
@riolaa hi there. Alert: I am not discouraging you from applying to Johns Hopkins.
Sadly, trying for Johns Hopkins is like flogging a dead horse. To get into Johns Hopkins you need almost perfect sat, perfect gpa, tons of extracurriculars, some of which should be groundbreaking like winning a gold or silver in Olympiads, and a high efc. If you are applying to Johns Hopkins for its ranking, please consider these factors that influence the admissions at JHU. Again, you can try your luck. Just informing you so that you don’t waste a slot in the common app for a selfdefeating venture in the whole application process.
Yeah the thread is inactive because people are not willing to help others with their experiences. sharing your stats and ecas can provide a rough sketch about how competitive admissions process has become,so please post your acceptances or your friend’s acceptance…the site is completely anonymous… no-one will know your credentials and personal details.
Top 30 colleges are like hitting a jackpot. I waisted an entire year following them. I graduated in 2018 and still struggling to get an admission. I have applied to 50+ colleges, read details about 150. From my experience what I have learned is the following.
- Only apply to the top 30 colleges if you have 1530+ SAT, 3 perfect or near-perfect SAT subject test, almost perfect GPA ( or All A's). But the most important of all is that your counselor and teacher should agree to write exactly what ask them to write on your behalf. ( If you are OF student than it will be a lot easy for you)
- If you miss any factors above, consider a medium or low ranking university (Top 200), apply for presidential or chancellor's scholarships, get full tuition and fees off(or even better a full ride). Take the most competitive program within that university. Graduate with honors. It will be much easier to get Top colleges for masters and PHD program and nobody cares where you have studied your undergraduate. ( Nobody will ask you where you did your high schools).
- Be active in Reddit. It is more interactive, quick and resourceful than this thread. ( That's why I am not very active on it.)
- Do your research before applying!!!!!
- Meet and greet! Many of us are from Kathmandu and if we really want to help each other out, Let's just meet.
- Remeber Jan 1 is not the DEADLINE for all college. Keep at least 6 slots empty so that you can apply to some rolling and some, FEB 1 college with improved application,
Again please do your research!
And if possible let’s meet in the first week of January!
