I heard Pitt was excellent. Michigan is the best if the money is worth it. It’s unfortunate that students have to make these choices over money instead of best fit. Good luck! You will do great at any of these.
Any advice on deciding on an OOS college (Wooster, OH) vs. in-state colleges (California)? Main concern is whether it’s feasible to travel and live in the dorm if a student needs to be self-quarantined for 14 days in the Fall, assuming classes are in-person. What else should we be considering due to the uncertainties of the pandemic? Thanks for any advice.
Update: My daughter ended up choosing Northern Kentucky University and is a BFA Musical Theatre student. She loves it! She has great professors and most of her classes are small enough to be in-person. She was able to test into Modern Dance 3 and her Broadway Chorus class has recorded the school’s alma mater to share with the community.
Since no stage performances are allowed this fall, the school is having virtual performances live streamed, and they are also hosting these Zoom events with notable alumni:
Sept. 18. Kat Moser and Jacob Priddy: Kat – Off-Broadway run in The Office: A Musical Parody and grad school. Jacob – professional Musical Director in and out of New York City.
Sept. 25. Roderick Justice: Producing Artistic Director of The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati.
Oct. 2. Mikki Abraham: National tours of Beautiful: The Carole King Musical and Once on This Island.
Oct. 16. Will Brandstetter: Tour Manager for Mannheim Steamroller and Alton Brown: Eat Your Science tour.
Oct. 23. Aaron Lavigne: Broadway shows; national tour of Jesus Christ Superstar as Jesus.
Nov. 13. Angie Schworer: Broadway shows including The Producers, Catch Me If You Can, The Prom, Something’s Rotten, and more.
I know it’s only a month into school, but I’ve been really impressed so far!
Can you please tell me if your request was answered? And how did you solve the problem?
I now have the same situation, I read the Universal Technical Institute reviews (https://universal-technical-institute.pissedconsumer.com/review.html), got to these articles, filled out an application, and no one answers.
Thanks for your reply in advance.

My daughter is a senior in high school this year and looking into musical theatre programs, are you able to tell me some more about how her audition process was for this school?
Hi dramamamaqueen, are you talking about Northern Kentucky University? I am happy to share what my daughter’s experience was like. Let me know if you mean NKU specifically.
Thanks for sharing this! Any STEM students in particular??
D21: Multiple honors and AP courses, very STEM-minded, not big into partying but wants to be in a city atmosphere. Out of 8 colleges applied: 5 accepted; 1 reject; 2 pending (deferred)

Top 3 schools:
- Saint Louis University ($100K)
- College of Charleston ($12K)
- Loyola Chicago ($80K)
Two research universities and one LA.
Financially, they are relatively close (all under $40K/year with scholarships). She’s not eligible for any needs-based scholarship. But the cost is a key factor.
We have visited SLU and COC during COVID, but Loyola is closed to tours.
As a parent, I appreciated the welcome text message and ‘thank you for telling us your story’ as from her essay from SLU. But we are not swaying her in one direction or another.
Any feedback on these schools would be appreciated.
