I’m also confused about merit. S21 applied mid-December and found out he was accepted last week, but no mention of any merit in his portal. OOS, 4.0 UW, 1500 SAT, 10 APs. It sounds like some people were notified of merit a few weeks after acceptance while others found out right away. I guess we’ll wait and see what happens, if he is offered any or not.
Mine got the merit letter about 2-3 weeks after she was accepted
My D had a 3.9 UW and 4.8 weighted. School gives a full point for honors and AP classes for trustee scholarship at 17k. UDEL must be weighting GPA higher this year. UMASS gave her only 16k.
Mine was accepted in November got notification on portal of merit money 2-3 weeks later but did not get snail letter until last Wednesday. Also with those stats he would seem to be lock for Trustee 17k.
I think $16,000 is the highest at UMASS.
He should get $15,000 or $17,000, depending upon how his GPA is recalculated.
you can apply to the honors college once you have submitted your application to UDel. There is a link somewhere on your portal. Decisions for UDel and Honors College are released separately. You only have to write one essay for the Honors College, and the 15th was the last day you could apply to the Honors College.
Did you click on the financial button in the portal? Our mention of merit money was there.
Does anyone know when I should expect my decision? I applied RD on Dec 1.
Did anyone receive an email saying there has been status update made to the portal or was the decision just in the portal
Portal. Decisions seem to released on Friday evenings at 5 pm.
How can I check if I got into honors? I dont see anything for it.
When my son got into honors he saw an update to his portal, and down below where it originally said his application to the honors college was being reviewed it changed to you have been accepted to the honors college. It was about 4 weeks after his acceptance to UD that he learned of his acceptance to the HC. About 2 weeks after his acceptance he learned about his merit aid. Good luck!
Has anyone heard of anyone getting a rejection or deferral from udel yet
My daughter didn’t get an email that her portal was being updated for honors, she got notice in the mail yesterday and when she checked the portal it had been updated.
Curious about the Distinctive Scholars weekend. Is it just high stats kids that get an invite? Or is it a more holistic review? And when do the invites typically go out?
From what I’ve heard, every year has a theme and potential students are chosen with the theme in mind but yes, it is usually high stats kids. You don’t know what the theme is so have no idea what they are looking for. From what I’ve heard, last year’s theme was diversity which took on many different forms. My daughter was a high stats student and we live in a state with a very small presence at UD so we think that may be why she was selected. I believe her invite came in early February. The in person event was canceled 3 days before it was to begin and ended up being held over Zoom last year.
My daughter’s friend was invited, 2nd in the class (my daughter was 8th). Perfect gpa, very high test scores, very few EC’s (which actually made my daughter jealous with 12 years of dance, 4 year 3 season varsity sports, captain, officer in 4 honor societies, 4 year high school musical, church peer leadership - she loves being involved in a lot of things, at UD she’s in a sorority, club running, president of a club, very involved in UDance, a peer mentor…). But she only had a 34 on the ACT.
“only” a 34?? Thats almost a perfect score
And she did get merit but no distinguished scholar invitation. They both took similar classes in HS, but my daughter had a B and B+, and A-‘s, her friend had a better gpa. My daughter would joke that of course her grades were perfect, since she did nothing outside of school (signed up for track every year but only came to a couple of practices, so many kids on the no cut team, her name was called every year at the end of season dinner). I think grades and scores mean the most for merit (this year grades due to TO).
