Class of 2025 Admissions DISCUSSION

Same here… application has been in for over a month now and stats are higher that many acceptances I am seeing. She already has 3 other acceptances from very comparable schools with respect to ranking and status. Since this is taking so long she’s stopped bothering about this…

Yes SRAR is gray once completed. TO button is blue if you submitted scores for review and gray if you’re TO.

Well, first of all a lot of teenagers are already in a heightened state of anxiety because of the pandemic, the uncertainty surrounding the process is already stressful, but the added complications due to covid have added fuel to the fire. Should I have gone test-optional? What if I had gotten to take a test? Now more kids are applying test-optional will that hurt me? Now more kids are applying to state schools due to uncertainty will that hurt me? What about all of these kids from 2020 who didn’t go?

Other kids, like my own, are in the middle of mid-terms, so they are also brain drained.

But really, as @fanoffriends said, this is something that reflects the future they hope is a lot better than what they are currently living through. No 17/18 year old wants to be stuck inside their parents house the majority of their senior year. So they want closure and the not knowing can add to that maybe I’m not good enough beast that is always lurking in their head (despite our telling him this process has so many things you can’t control you can’t let it be a reflection of you).

My son too!

My D chose TO and her button is blue not grey. Always been that way. Only thing that’s changed is SRAR is now grey

I will say the button disappearing thing was definitely accurate in our case. It disappeared around 7 pm last night and my son heard right after midnight.

Mine was accepted and her button is still there, it never went away

Huh. These little “hacks” are never 100% fool proof.

Does your D have a score she decided not to submit?

Yes but it wasn’t sent anywhere

So true I can totally relate to everything you said… it’s very sad and heartbreaking what these young adults are going through at such a young age. Best of luck to your child and they will do great no matter where they end up. This is a very very small step in the grand scheme of things…

Maybe double check that?

Typically if you choose test optional from common app button is still blue once you open this button and confirm test optional then it should turn gray , like similar to SRAR complete becomes gray

But again i don’t think you need click and confirm on TO button since we didn’t touch the button it remains blue. It’s not mandatory to act on the button as we already specified on common app

Some kids have a desire to attend a certain school. For my kids, Penn State was their top choice because we’ve been going there since they were babies (Husband and I are both alum). There are people doing this handwringing on every major forum here for schools that have a large fan base.

That said, I think you have to reasonable in your expectations for a response. PSU gets over 100,000 applications every cycle. The fact that your daughter applied only a MONTH ago and is giving up on Penn State because she hasn’t heard yet seems premature. I mean, if she doesn’t want to go to PSU because she has other options she likes better, that’s awesome. Everyone has to find where they fit. But at many schools they have ONE notification day and it’s in Jan, Feb or March - so I don’t understand why people get upset about waiting for a PSU decision when at most big schools, the wait is long. (Purdue for example doesn’t release decisions until Jan 15 and my daughter applied in August). Penn State tells you that you will hear by Dec 24. No one “deserves” to hear before then or before any one else. That’s just the way PSU works. It’s the way most big schools work.

Many of the students waiting have applied 4+ months ago - One month is definitely not a long time to wait at PSU.

Agree!
I can only speak for my own but PSU is not her first choice BUT she still had that anxiety watching people get in and she didn’t hear. To her it means that her hard work paid off, especially with such a crappy year for them.

Yeah just double checked ATC.org and they weren’t sent. Weird

I’m with you 10000%
Same experience over here.
Good luck to her. They’ll all end up where they want to be, for sure.

Never thought Wisconsin would release decisions before hearing back from PSU, neverrrr!
